some concrete info regarding release date and pricing
My source at Honda is telling me that the Fit will start arriving in showrooms on April 20th.
Exact pricing is still very much up in the air but I was informed that the Base 5MT should be $12,900 and the Sport 5MT priced at around $15,000. Add $800 for AT.

Want cheap buy Korean. Personally I want rather live if involved in an accident than save a couple of thousand dollars but for some people life is cheap (same people who ride motorcycles with $99 helmets). You get what you pay for.
Even hyundai is trying to go more upmarket and stop competeing solely on price because they know that cellar dwellers don't survive.

You have a valid point Vivid..What I was trying to say is wish Honda could release something like the 92-00 Civic hatchbacks..I bought my 92 Si hatchback and 97 Cx hatch brand new from the dealer for $10k out the door. Both cars were light with endless options for parts. The Fit is heavier and more difficult for swaps. People all choose their cars for different reasons. I currently own a 2000 Civic hatch with a itr swap..And it's going to take more from Honda than the Fit to get me out of it.

I find the argument that the Civic is just a bit more so I'll get that instead mute because in Australia the Civic is cheaper than the Jazz by quite a margin.
I can have a 1.7L Civic sedan for A$20,000 and yet my Jazz cost A$25,000 and its not even the top of the range model here. The Civic is about to be replaced. The old model sedan here is just plain ugly compared to the Jazz. The engine is not vtec, the auto is not CVT, the usable interior space is significantly less than the Jazz, fuel economy less, performance less and resale less. Biggest determinant was the fun to drive factor as cars are often a decision of the heart not the head. Stepped out of the Jazz with a big smile as opposed to a yawn from the Civic sedan (might as well have been a Camry). I'm sure this may all change with the new model this year but the argument that a larger car should cost more than a smaller car is dead and buried in Europe and Asia.
If that was the case everyone would drive a Falcon and Commodore here because they are the best bang for buck and yet sales of these large cars are declining while overall car sales are increasing. These big cars can be had for A$30,000-A$35,000 yet a medium sized car like the Accord Euro or Mazda 6 will set you back around $40,000 but are selling like hotcakes.
Further if size was still a price determinant then they wouldn't be able to give away Golf GTis at A$55,000 but they have a 6 month waiting list but yet I can walk off the lot with a cheaper 5.7L V8 SS Commodore or 5.4L XR8 Falcon any day of the week.
