Planning a road trip...

Hey all:
Hopefully my fitfreakers across America will be able to help out with this.
My Fiancee and I are taking a cross country road trip at the end of this month through the first week of Jan. 09.
Tentatively, we'll be in the following states - Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona - for anywhere between 24-72 hours, I'd estimate - our destination is California, and we'll be there the longest, maybe 4 to 5 days, with time to spend in Southern CA and the SF/Bay area.

I'm from Florida, the car is registered there, etc. And as far as Florida laws are concerned my car is "legal" (except for HIDs, since I believe thats technically illegal in all 50 states)
I'd like to know if I should be concerned about law enforcement in any of the states mentioned above, because I know nowadays the excuse "Just passing through, officer" doesn't always hold up.
This is the list of mods currently on the car:
lowered on skunk2 springs, skunk2 50mm cat-back, home made cold air intake, yellow fog lens film, the aforementioned HIDs (aimed as best I can to not blind others Much..., they're 6000K) and 30%/15%/15% tint (The legal max in FL, and I have a decal in my doorjam stating it conforms to my local laws)

So, any fitfreakers in these states who can shed some light on this, it'd be much appreciated. Realistically the only things I'd consider swapping because they are easy are the intake and exhaust. I like the output of the HIDs too much and feel safer on long stretches of midnight highways.

Thanks in advance all!

i think you will be fine to be honest... your tints are legal in your state... i dont think you can get a ticket for that. intake and cat-back only only illegal if too loud, or if you fail emission... if you don't rev up your car near cops you will be fine, and since your not a resident emission laws don't apply to you.... I have never heard of some one getting pulled over simply for having bright head lights... as long as your not leaving the highs on into oncoming traffic i would guess you will be fine.... yellow fogs MIGHT be an issue... my advice leave them off unless you need to use them. and the springs they can not do anything about (except in CA your headlights need to be i belive 20 in off the ground) wich i bet the are, and if not they wont pull you over for that (if your driving like a moron and the suspect it they can check)

hope this helps.. im not an expert in these states but i think that all would make sense... if your driving normal u rly don't have anything to worry about... if you get pulled over for go 120 on the interstate... then they will look at your car and give u crap about it but just driving as normal i doubt u attract attention...

hope this helps and have a safe, fun trip... and don't race in cali.. lol

My guess is if a cop wants to be a dick, they're going to do it regardless.
I've been stopped for 62 in a 60 with my old car, because cruise control wasn't exact apparently, $123 dollar ticket. Obviously contested - but at the time I think he was trying to make some sort of example out of me since I was young.
Another friend of mine was pulled over for doing 65 in a 70, and the ticket indicated he was "obstructing traffic and mildly reckless" even though it was nearly 1am on a 4 lane highway. $158 dollars, contested, dropped to a moving violation or something of that nature. Cop kept him on the side of the road for nearly an hour lecturing him about how keeping up with the flow of traffic is so important to the safety of all on the road, blah blah. Total power trip.

Anyway - I fly under the radar in general here in FL, and will do so for the whole trip.

Any Fit meets going on in California, South or North, between Christmas and New Year's????

wow... sounds like dick cops.... if that EVER happened to me i'd have their badge numbers and be filing complaints.... total bull... in CT a cop is not allowed to write a ticket for 5 or less over... because speedometers and radar are not perfect... and unless there was a min. speed limit on the highway your friend was on he should not have gotten a ticket... mind you most min. speed limits are 40.... around here cops on pawer trips is what makes me have no respect for cops... i appreciate what they do to keep us safe... but the ones on a power trip need to be dealt with... they don't like us to know that we have rights too!

Yeah well my friend didn't have to pay in the end.
3 months because courts are backed up, but it paid off - Judge said it was ridiculous.
Minimum here is 45mph, limit is 70mph. Some parts of FL 70mph is more like a minimum though, it's ridiculous.
I bet even a Floridian with a Prius can barely get half of the EPA's estimated MPGs for that car the way they drive sometimes. GAS, GAS, GAS, BRAKKKKKE! GAS, Squeal the tires, GAS GAS GAS BRAKE GAS BRAKE BRAKE GAS.... and so it goes.
