Dug it out again....
Dug it out again....
I had serious worries that my Fit would be passed over in favour of my F250 now that winter has really set in.
The Fit is very good in the snow and my only real complaint is the heater cannot keep up at -35 to -45 temps.

A few days before Christmas, I drove for over 900 kms, at 100 km/h, with the outside temperature hovering close to -39C, and my little Fit was barley able to keep me comfortable with the the fan on '4' and the heat on 'High'...but I survived the extreme test. Tonight's overnight low is expected to dip to -42C. But she's plugged in and should start just fine. The only thing is the seats are rock hard, and plastic shatters easily at those temps. I have friends with other vehicles that don't perform this well during the winter. They can't believe that my Fit runs so well in the winter. They ask me, "So you drive this thing in the winter?", and I tell them, "Sure! It is a Honda after all!" LOL
OMG - -35 is just way too cold. I am so ready for spring. We are suppose to have a 50 degree day Saturday so I plan to get the car washed and detailed on the inside. Of course it is suppose to rain on Sunday but I can't stand it any longer - the little MR is begging to be washed!

Since I work outside in this cold I bought a Canada Goose Resolute parka.
It was about $700.
The only problem is I don't have enough room in the Fit to wear this kind of gear and drive to work.
So I wear a fleece and put the parka on after I get to work.
Also, the signal switch and wiper controls are to close to the wheel. The ends of my mitts hit these all the time and I end up driving with bare hands, which is waaay to uncomfortable.

My Fit is getting put to the test tonite. Heading up to Denali National Park to photograph the aurora. Tonites temperature is forecast 25 to 35 below, with a windchill advisory because of -50 windchills. We will be idling in the Fit for three to 6 hours.
I idled my Fit for 2 hours at -48 and the cold temp light kept coming on.
I am using my truck as the portable shed whenever its below -40 from now on.
The Fits heater cannot keep up with anything below -40. The Fit needs to be driven to keep the heat on.
How about posting a picture of the aurora? ...or your Fit with the aurora in the background? Sounds spectacular.

For those of us here in the USA, I would like to point out that-39 Celsius is only -38 Fahrenheit. See, it's not as cold as it sounds initially.
Crap. I didn't even think of a Fit pic.
No biggie I'm heading back out tonite.
The Fit stayed nice and warm, even with me rolling down the window so I could stick my head out to aim the camera every 2-3 minutes. I didn't have a thermometer, but 60 miles south of where I was it was -45, and my intake air was -28.
I did have on snow pants and long johns, plus a big thick blanket so that could have alot to do with my warmth.
