Getting Antsy!
OK, it's March. Honda has been telling us we would see the Fit in the showrooms in March or April. My birthday is April 14, and I want to buy myself a birthday present. I just wish we would get some sort of update on the status of the US Fit. I wouldn't mind a little teaser from Honda just to keep the excitement level up.Hopefully soon to be Fitted!
Well, http://fit.honda.com is currently returning an error page. Maybe it's being updated with pricing and options? *crosses fingers*
Anyone notice that Hondas' Fit page has been unavailable for the past day or so? I'm hoping that means we'll see some final pricing and color info, and a page layout like the rest of the site.....
well, the site is back up but i've noticed something for the Sport Model: Available 5-speed manual transmission.
Does that mean the auto is standard but 5spd is optional at cost? Or, maybe free of charge like the accord v6 manuals?
Was this on the webpage prior it went down? Anyone remember?

Depending on how big a website is, and how many changes are made, it takes seconds to upload updates.
Your inability to view the site is most likely to do with connectivity issues between you and the hosting server.

The Fit site was down for me too this morning, where as the rest of the Honda site was fine.
Seems like they added that manual comment simply to clarify the fact that theres paddle shifting for the automatic Sport.

To me - "Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters (5AT only)" for the sport model, seems like auto will be standard. And - "Available 5-speed manual transmission" will be available as indicated as an option. Otherwise it would be the other way around - standard 5spd mt and available 5spd auto w/ paddle shifters. But the way it was listed, auto is standard and manual is optional. Correct me if I'm reading it wrong.
This seems to me that this is following the Accord Sedan logic: Auto and 6MT is the same price.

Considering that all the other cars in the segment charge extra for a 4 speed automatic and come standard with a 5 speed manual transmission, if they do that, it will be a problem. I won't pay the same price for a manual as an automatic (especially a 5 speed automatic that costs an extra 1200$ CDN on the Civic). But if it's a 6 speed manual with other toys, then I'll pay the same price.

Fit Sport adds:
Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters (5AT only) STANDARD
Body-colored underbody spoilers
Body-colored rear roofline spoiler
Fog lights
15-inch alloy wheels
Security system with remote entry
200-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with MP3/WMA playback capability, auxiliary input jack, 5-mode equalizer and six speakers
Cruise control
Available 5-speed manual transmission OPTIONAL
I know that the Fit will have a 5 speed automatic, but all the other automatic equipped cars in its class are 4 speed automatic, and they all charge extra for it. That's what I was saying. Why would Honda put a 5 speed automatic as standard equipment, if it's a 1200$ CDN option on the Civic, and give no credit for the 5 speed manual?!?!?!
No, that means they are padding their bottom line. Manual transmissions have all ways been sold for less money than automatics. People are willing to pay the same amount for a 6 speed manual V6 Accord. In Canada, the V6 Accord coupe is 900$ more than the 5 speed automatic, but they also added extras to the manual model.
In Canada, they are still listing the automatic as being available, and the manual as standard equipment.

I think they must just be having problems with their server or something. It seems like the page will load sometimes and not others. Who knows...
However, I'm almost certain that the "Available 5-speed manual transmission" line has been there since they put that section up originally. I suspect they are listing it that way because they are trying to emphasize the first-in-class paddle shifters thing.
