Cheap car that is good on gas mileage.

#1 reason on my list.

Plus, it's a Honda! My second choice would be the Yaris

Yaris is my second choice too. I was able to test drive a black sport Yaris sedan. It was a very comfortable ride, but it was kind of sluggish on the highway. But overall, I would still buy one for city driving. I haven't yet driven a Fit, but I ended up putting a deposit on a Vivid Blue Sport Automatic after reading up on how it's top of its class. The Car & Driver comparison was especiallly encouraging.

lol, I picked the rice reason, but that's not exactly how I would've phrased it.

Honestly, my real reason is a conglomeration of all three of those. I like how it looks, and I think that the Fit can be a very neat looking car with very few dollars put into it. I also like it's daily driver functionality for a bunch of reasons (size, interior space, mileage). Furthermore, it's a fun car to take to a track day once in awhile, especially for my gf to drive, as it's easy to handle, has paddle shifters, and has a low overall limit. I'd drive the S13 and she'd drive the Fit, at a track day, ideally.

I would have to add:
  • Because the Civic has become too big, and no longer "Fits" me.
  • Because four doors and a hatch in a Honda is perfect for me.
  • Because I am in awe of the "magic seats", thus making all other sub-compact seat configurations unacceptable.

I chose "cheap and good on gas mileage" in the poll, but my reasons are many: It reminds my of my beloved 1985 Honda Civic wagon; the simple fact that it is a Honda; the cargo space is versatile;it has a high roof line for my taller passengers; my trusted auto mechanic is Honda certified and he completely understands why I'd buy it sight unseen because he's worked on many other cars besides Hondas and has first-hand knowledge that no other manufacturer so consistently builds a car that lasts; and the price is right. And one more thing -- I don't think if I waited that I would have another chance to buy one for at least 6 months to a year. I think it is going to be one of the highest demand cars in the history of the auto industry.

I went for the sport model, AT, so I could get cruise control (long highway commute), in Storm Silver, already plunked down full price (never thought I'd do that in a million years) and I'm waiting delivery on April 20. Price was exactly as quoted on the MSRP, $15,970, plus $550 delivery, 6% sales tax, $395 dealer tack-on, and the usual state registration fee, part of which I get back when I transfer my tag.

The seats, and my need for a hatch.

The question is more when than what

My reason isn't listed - most interior room for it's size along with great value and performance

Hmmm, interesting. I do wonder how well the Fit will sell in North America. I also expect to have the model change very quickly (2 years, maybe less) given it has been available elsewhere in the world for a few years now.

I agree with you on your points (I don't intend to race it, however). My only additions would be that it is first and foremost a Honda, with quality, fit & finish and reliability that most other brands can only dream of. I've owned Dodges, Buicks and Fords and none of them lasted as long as any of the Hondas I have owned. Plus the fuel economy is usually best of class. I would consider a Toyota or maybe a Mazda, but few other cars would be on my short list!

Buying in one state and registering in another

For me, a sales consultant at a Honda dealership quoted the same MSRP $15,970, plus $550 destination, MN sales tax(7%)and some other fees for the Storm Silver sport model, AT.

If I drive 4 hrs to South Dakota, I can get it for almost $400 cheaper(4% sales tax). Are there any drawbacks for buying it in another state and registering it in MN? How about service? Do I need to go to the same dealership where I buy the car(for those initial scheduled maintenance)? what about warranty?
Sorry for my ignorance.

I'm sure you could go back to your local dealer for service but how happy are they going to be to see you driving with someone else's dealer name on the back? Also God forbid you get the one lemon and you need a service manager to go to bat for you Then I'll bet they might say "you might want to go back to where you bought it".
Also I'd double check your state's sales tax issue with new vehicle purchases - they may nail you on plates or something else in exchange for lose of those tax $$$....

Thanks Jonniedee,
I checked and you were right! MN collects back the difference in sales tax if the tax in the other state is lower(for vehicles purchased in another state). So it doesn't make sense to buy in another state even if the sales tax is lower.

I'm seriously considering the FIT and cars of this class which has lots of neat amenities because I suspect Armageddon is gonna come soo and a fuel prices will be high. When the Nissan Versa drops, it will be a neck & neck tie to which I'll buy.

*I want to further be a fuel miser to free up cash for other things
*I hate paying for fuel period..., so might as well pay the least
*I don't commute far to and from work
*I love Japanese engineered rice-wagons and hatches like my Protege 5
*I love the rice-ability platform which can make my ride unique and cool for cheap. Wheels, Drop Springs, Muffler Tip, Tint, tack on Accessories make this car look like a fun and sexy Go-Kart
*I love Go-Kart handling, zippy performance and parking ease
*I love the functionality of most hatches

Option A for me, i wanted a good reliable car as a daily driver that is comfy and looks the goods, hence the VTi-S model. i will do minor mods but my track and weekend car is the S2000.

Chris.

JDM= Japanese Domestic Market

Auto-X= is those grassroots motorsports Time Attack Pylon Course Race Events held in parking lots or on tracks. It's awesome to participate in with an OEM car. Usually community based safe sanctioned racing.

Florida used to hit people up for sales tax on cars after they'd paid them in another state, but a class action law suit resulted in the state paying out refunds. This was years ago. I'd call your Motor Vehicles office and find out and make sure you've got a connection to a dealer before you make the drive. Gas isn't cheap anymore, either!

#1 Reason I'm buying Another Honda

It's a Honda! They are super reliable, good on gas mileage, and fun to drive.
