but what everyone is missing is that if the civic was driving 60mph too that crash would have never happened. lowered car+modded engine vs. SUV = no accident.

Now I know why I get nervous when I see a Hummer coming from behind! Those things look massive and
those guys seems to enjoy looking down on you.

I think the Fit is relatively safe compared to other small cars... I was rear ended by a Ford Econoline at 30-40mph when I was at a dead stop. The van's bumper didn't make contact with my rear bumper, it was too tall so it impacted the body directly and the unibody structure was able to hold the intrusion back enough that if i had rear passengers they would have been fine. I was able to walk away with no injuries or even whiplash. I have heard of people being killed in accidents like this.

Pictures are here: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/gene...-sad-pics.html

Now, had he been going 60mph instead of 40mph it would have looked a lot worse. Also, if I had been going 60mph in reverse we would have looked like the cars in that video for sure. Those kinds of accidents are just not that likely.

Wow, they were able to restore your car? Frame bent? Salvaged title? I'm surprised the airbags didn't deploy... You could have hit your head on the steering wheel.

Actually no, it was totaled. It was more to illustrate people staying alive in the accident, not the car staying alive. I have a Sport NHBP now.

At those speeds nothing short of a Sherman would have come out well. Something to consider before putting your loved ones in a mid 90s small car thats for certain.

Neat vid, nice find. Nothing too new though mostly common sense. Low car vs tall car = low car people being hosed. Same goes for a car with more mass vs a small lighter car = hosed again for the people in the smaller car.

Just be sure to keep tabs on your surrounding as best you can everyone.

die in style hell yeah!

I'm pretty sure my brother crashing his lowering pickup saved his life vs it being at stock height. But then, thats a truck with more steel in the bumper than the fit has all around heh..

If I crash and die.. oh well, at least I won't have to study for that next test!

Also if America truly cared about car safety we'd prolly all be driving around in huge cushioned armored boxes.

Here's a "lifted" Smart Car; wouldn't want to meet this in a head-on crash

If you mean that how I think you could possibly mean it, it sounds fairly sanctimonious, even borderline elitist. With all due respect (and just so I don't barf :P), I'm going to assume I misunderstood the "good guys" comment.

And the "bad guys" are? No, nevermind... I don't wanna' know. Seriously, spare me the "enlightenment"!

LMAO!
