Still gettin a pretty consistant 27mpg with about 90% highway driving. Occasionally it jumps to 28 or drops to 25.5. Highest i have EVER gotten has been 31. Tires at 35 with Nitrogen fill, 1 person 75% of the time. Little idling, usually use the paddles. Lead size 13 foot 80-90 on fwy most times. Usually no AC or extra weight in the car except my 6'4" 360 frame

This about the same as my 97 DelSol S 5spd and my old 97 Civic DX Auto. Both with 1.6L SOHC non-VTec engines
34k in less than a year.. wow... still your mpg sounds not good ....
have you considered to take it to honda stealership?

Mileage Update ****New Record****

Well my previous highest ever was 35... New highest ever 38mpg....

The change: spring break... no short trips to college, only back and forth to work (52 miles 1 way).

Purchased 9/1/06. Current mileage as of today, 3/15/07 is 21,379. Sport AT with standard tire pressure. Little or no use of paddles.

I commute to my office 135 miles per day with the first 12 miles towards the office on local roads with plenty of lights. I'm averaging 33mpg with average highway speeds of 75mph. Aftermoon commute home is straight highway and speeds average 75 with common stretches up to 85mph.

Running cheapo 87 from whatever the closest station is at the time of needed fill up.

He said he's doing 80-90 most of the time on the freeway. Consistently going over 70mph will decimate your mileage, even if it's mostly highway. Especially on a 5-speed tranny.

The Honda dealership would laugh him out of the building if someone came in complaining about 28mpg but admitted to doing 80-90mph most of the time.

My experience exactly. I get a pretty constant 30-31mpg on my manual Fit, with 75% freeway, driving normally (for me, that's cruising at about 70-72, occasionally up to 80 to pass). My last tank, I used cruise control to keep it under about 68 when on the freeway, where VTEC kicks in no matter what the throttle position, and I got about 36mpg. I'm sure the freeway portions were easily 38mpg+.

Throttle is everything.

I got a new test on highway fuel efficiency today.
Drove 175km from home (Tromsø, Norway) to Kilpisjärvi, Finland and started early in the morning and the roads was nice with no or little ice. Almost no traffic. On some of the straights I tested the acceleration from 0-100km/t with the diffrent modes in the CVT transmission. And most of the time I drove pretty "hard", with most of the time around 110-120km/t.
The result was 6.7L/100km (or (100/6.7)*2.3521= 35.1 mpg (U.S gallon).
This was pretty good considering the way I drove the car.

On the way back I desided to drive as economical as I could. It was late at night and almost no traffic. The temperature outside was -1 degree celsius and clear weather with no wind. Same roads and same distance (175km), but the other direction.
I held the speedlimits all the time; max 90km/t most of the time and lowest at 60km/t at some short distances. Had turned off the radio, heating and everyting that needed power except the headlights ofcourse
I tried as best as I could to accelerate careful when needed and not use the brake but only coast down hills and when reducing speed to a lower speedlimit.

Now I was getting REALLY low: 4.8L/100km (49 mpg)!!

I can't help believing that cruise control isn't one of the keys to getting the best mpg. Whenever I have the opportunity to use it, I do. Granted, my 5 day per week commute is primarily on the thruway, about a 25 minute drive on it, with another 10 minutes either way through town to get to work. I average anywhere from 32 to 35 mpg per fill up. I've gotten 41 mpg on long trip travel. I get just under 30 if I am scooting around town on the weekends.

This car seems to know best how to drive itself...also, taming my speed to under 70 has helped immensely....

A 6-speed tranny (manual or auto) could help mileage immensely above 70mph, depending on how it was geared, but a 5-speed just doesn't stand a chance of really keeping the RPM's down to a fuel-efficient level above 70mph.

Mileage update Base Fit Auto

My gas mileage has been going up gradually over the last few fill ups. I'm almost at 2,000 miles my first couple of tanks I was getting 29.66 30.33 29.78 28.54... In my last two tanks I've gotten 32.46 and 33.79 mostly city driving.

Maybe the warmer weather ,engine break in ,me just learning to drive it better ,or something else has helped to get better mileage. I hope the trend continues as I drive more and more.

I would love a 6-th gear, and not mind downshifting into 5th or 4th for hills or passing. It would be worth it.

what is the fit's official fe numbers for canada?

i noticed that it doesn't qualify for the new $1000 dollar rebate for fuel efficient vehicles (canada only).
i think the yaris is the only one of it's class that did qualify.

After my oil change at 5000 miles, I'm suddenly getting about 2-3mpg more. Driving mostly freeway, doing 70-75, my last tank was about 34mpg (average about 31mpg before the oil change). I'm going to try my next full tank with keeping it below about 68 - that gave me an extra 4-5mpg before the oil change.

One old guy from one of the R/C flying clubs I visit bought a Civic and then a Fit, and he totally hates the Fit because his Civic gets high 30s and the Fit is averaging 25. He really spoke poorly about it. It looks brand new, so I suggested to dump it while it's new if he hates it that much. I need to catch him again, and find out if he has AT or MT, and if he uses the "hidden A/C" setting (ie, defrost).

hmm canada official FE numbers lets do some math

under old rating it's 7.8 and 5.6 L/100km city highway

ok inverse, multiply by 3.785 and .62 n u get 30.786mpg for city and 41.705 mpg for highway

for 80/20 highway/city by mileage the combined should be 38.743 mpg

ive actually hit that only twice with a 565 tank 400 of which was highway and the other tank i forgot what it was but atleast 400 highway

in the winter i was around 32-34mpg most of the time and now that it's warmer im hopin to see some really high numbers, not sure if ill ever hit 40 tho
