Fits and Rabbits

Hey everyone!

I'm a college student and I am lucky enough to have my parents buy me my first car pretty soon (after much too long of driving around my mom's old Toyota Sienna). What it has come down to at this point is the 2009 Honda Fit Sport versus the 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit 2-door base. I just came here to ask you guys why I should pick the Fit over the VW (or the Rabbit, if that's what you think). Thanks in advance!

Because we have practicality, something a that Rabbit doesn't have. Cargo Space, MPG, Superior Handling, Comfortable 4dr seating, need I go on?

Kind of depends what you're looking for in a car, the VW has more horsepower which is nice but it's also a 2 door car. I was originally wanting to buy a Rabbit before I bought my Fit, but the rabbits were out of my price range. Don't take that the wrong way though, I'm absolutely happy with my Fit, it's incredibly versatile and gets great gas milage, but sometimes I would like a bit more power.

test drive both and find out for yourself. what do you want most in a car? and posting this on a honda fit website you should of known you'd get a fairly heavily biased opinion toward the fit right? buy what YOU want, not what the internet tells you

VWs are generally a very good brand, but I think Honda still has them outclassed with reliability. The Fit will be much more versatile for most things. Drive them both and weigh out if the driving experience is that much better in the Rabbit to trump that.

When i was 19 i wanted to get the GTI but i was kinda reluctant because I didnt know if i could afford the payments for long(and i didnt want to lose the car). Than I was thinking about getting the rabbit. So I decided to go with the Fit, now I'm 21 and I'm able to keep up with payments on the Fit just fine. So for me, cost was an issue since i bought my own car. And I'm glad that I got the Fit, great online community and aftermarket support =]. Also, I've always been a JDM whore anyways. LOL! Than again you just cant beat Honda's reliability. So if you're parents are buying you a car, its really up to whatever you want. But I can think of many many reasons to buy the Fit instead. Main reason is probably reliability in the long run. I'm sure you plan to keep the car through college and a couple years after until you can buy your own right? VWs always develop electrical problems and are way more expensive to fix. =]

*edit* Also consider the cost of car insurance for a 2 door =]

The big 5-cyl in the Rabbit isn't the most frugal gas-sipper either.

reliability, quality, utility, mpg, etc. etc. etc.

why would someone even consider a rabbit anyway over a Fit?

Considering that you are in college, you should definitely get the Fit. I doubt you have the extra funds sitting around for when the Volkswagen breaks.

The Rabbit does have a longer warranty. Traction control standard and abs standard. Also has more torque and horsepower.

the fit has abs standard. traction control is usually unnecessary, and the extra hp and ft. lbs = less mpgs...

I'm in college and my roommate and I both have fits. i'd recommend the fit.

The VW is not as dependable as the Fit - a person I know bought one used and had tranny issues and overheating issues. Find their forum to ask questions to folks that are currently driving the car. That is what I did in February 2007 before I bought my Fit.

the more reasons why they extended the warranty cause it's another feature that will break down.

i suppose college kids have hell of a lot of time on their hands vs someone like me that works and have a family so you can baby sit your car at the dealership all day long. lol

The VW is cooler but much less reliable.
The Honda is more practical and more reliable, plus nobody will think you were stupid for spending the money on a VW just to try and look cool.
When it comes to cars, Japanese>European, almost always.

Honda > VW.... there is nothing more to say.

There is only 1 person i know that likes their VW.... and she's now my ex..... hahaha...(even her car has tones of issues) everyone else i know who had a VW(jetta's and golfs) hated it and had numerous problems... exspecially the gas problems and the rattling...
