the rabbit S does have 170 horsepower now. I did test drive a rabbit last summer and i was not a big fan of the clutch from what I can remember, it was very hard to feel for me.

if its a power thing, get a used wrx.

The Rabbits of old is what the Fit is now. The VWs are more comfortable for a European size person and that is what I miss most. I had a first year import 1973 rabbit I paid 300 dollars for that would run rings around my Fit, but it was a rat and I traded it for a 73 VW Thing. I bought the fit for reliability, economy and it being fun to drive.

The fit has more technology built into it, I love honda, I love the way the fit looks, inside and out.. For the price, you get A LOT more for you money with the fit.

The Rabbit, looks ok...Very, very boring inside, not a lot going on anywhere inside that car. It has worse mpg and handling than the fit. The only upside to it, it has 177 HP, or is it 170 HP? either way, Go with the honda.

It will be WAY cheaper to repair incase something happens and it will hold its value better.

if your parents are buying it for you, why would you buy the cheaper, slower car of the two? go with the Dub and your friends wont make fun of you and you might even get laid during your remaining years in college :P Best of luck!

So by more technology you mean an interior that looks a bit wilder, more spaceship like?

Here I did a little bit of REAL research to back up my claims....

Technology the Rabbit has and the Fit does not....
- DOHC engine
- 4 wheel independent suspension (Fit only has independent up front)
- Optional sunroof with pinch protection & one touch open/close/vent (no sunroof on Fit)
- Variable intermittent front wipers with many speeds (instead of off, intermitent, low high on the Fit)
- Front seats with adjustable height standard
- Front seats available heated
- Lumbar adjustment
- one touch power windows with pinch protection (up and down)
- heated side mirror are standard
- Turn signals in the mirrors
- electric power steering changes rate based on speed
- remote trunk release is standard
- outside temp display
- 4 wheel disk brakes, no drums on VW's
- Braking assist is standard
- 10 speaker stereo (fir with Nav only has 6)
- Satellite radio
- 6 Disc changer
- Rear HVAC vents
- Power outlets in the cargo area
- Center console

The Fit has what... steering wheel controls, magic seats in the rear, available nav and a leather wrapped steering wheel?

You cannot possibly have a legitimate arguement the Fit having more technology then the VW

All those goodies and the FIT is still rated the most reliable small car... While VW in general, not just the rabbit, is rated right around...um LAST.

That says something when VW is rated one of the least reliable cars on the road now...WHy in the hell would you buy one when you're considering a honda also?

Wait a minute, are you trying to back pedal and change the subject now? You said the Fit has more technology and after I backed up my claims you change the subject? Is that your way of saying you were basically making things up based on nothing without having to actually admit it?

Don't get me wrong, like I said in my first post I could buy a VW for cheap because I work for them and I still chose the Fit. The Fit is more versatile, it's cheaper, it's lighter and more agile, it doesn't need premium like the Rabbit, it gets better gas mileage, it has more head and leg room, its smaller overall but feels bigger inside, it IS more reliable then the Rabbit but.....

If you want to base it on reliability now, JD Power just came out with there '09 dependability reports (based on numbers of problems per 100 vehicles) and the Scion XA was rated the most dependable Sub-Compact fallowed by the Suzuki Areio and 3rd palce went to the Chevy Aveo, I believe all of which can be had for less money then a Fit to.

Don't get offended, I have nothing against you personally. I just don't like claims based on brand loyalty nut swinging being used like they are facts. If your gonna make a claim then you should be able to back it up with something other then your biases opinion. Opinions aren't facts.

edit- I do give you credit for trying to back something up while I was typing my reply......

I think this one is a little more relevant though.... (keep in mind I'm not arguing a side, just discussing facts)

I had originally said that Honda was a more technologically advanced automaker over VW, not including 4 disc brakes or suspension set ups, I've owned 2 VW's and drove a different one quiet a bit and for the money, I feel you get a lot more, not just in the looks department, but everything just seems and looks nicer in the fit, versus the bland interior of the rabbit. Looks arent everything but you spend more time looking at the car than noticing the extra 53 HP the Rabbit has or it's brakes...

I wasn't trying to start an argument, I just feel from my experince with owning & driving honda's and vw's, that honda's are by far, a better value, atleast in their cheaper cars.

See this I have no problem with, it's your opinion (and I completely 100% agree with it). But there's a HUGE difference between saying that and saying "The fit has more technology built into it"

I apologize for voicing my opinion as a fact, I shouldn't have.

The rabbit does have more electronics, But i think this is VW's downfall. Same with the old audis and BMW's. More electronics=more problems in the long run. =/
