Question 09 GE8 or 98 type R?

New to the board, but been lurking for a bit now. So I've been looking at getting rid of my 07 CR-V for something smaller. Noticed the newer fits around town and they look pretty slick so it led me to this site.

Long story short, my sister works for Honda Financial and they do biweekly sales of cars within their company off leases, returns, trainers etc. U can probably guess that they get deals on new cars also(certain acuras too!). I was gonna order a fit sport for 10% off msrp before ttl but i found they had a 98 integra type r with 4,500 miles on it for 9,450 before tax and license (champ white). Pretty unbelievable i know but they say its a trainer car and in good condition and nothing shows up on the carfax either. I know type R's are pretty rare but is it worth it to pocket the 5 grand or so and get the type r or should i get the fit. Trying to gauge people's opinions, i know it all comes down to what i want and its a fit forum and theres bias, but I wanna know your opinions and pros vs cons.

For now a big minus would be the attention the type r would get both from cops and thieves and theres no shortage of either around my area.

i only voted for the fit because i was in a close situation

s2000 or fit

a brand new car no problems and only you know how it was driven
compared to an older car with many different drivers and you dont completly know the condition
but overall it is whatever you decide =]

live dangerously (type R!) and spend the money you would have spent on the fit on crazy security measures for the teg.
seriously i know this is a fit forum, but how can you pass up a hand built engine?

agreed!! TYPE R are still rare to find n with that low miles n its a trainer car, you can bet it still a virgin (no mods) drive it for a few days TRY to keep it in a garage n if you dun like it, resell it for twice what you paid for it.

like everyone else says, TYPE R will go quick. in my area it will last at most 2 weeks. i live in the boonies of VA where i work at there i park in a parking garage n you need a special badge to get in n out n there are cameras.

what i would do is get the TYPE R, resell, n get another car of your choosing if you don't want the TYPE R.

I owned a 2000 type-R...it was black.

Let me tell you...the car itself is amazing. It's fun to drive and you get a TON of looks.

But...you get lots of unwanted attention too. I can tell you at least a dozen stories of when people just crowded it and drooled all over it. Made me paranoid.

You can't drive it any where because of the theft thing...it's just not a very practical car.

Not to mention, the hey day of the type-R is LONG over. Now it's just a decent handling car with an underpowered engine.

if you could drive the type-r without having to worry about it then go for it.. but we all know owning a type r is a headache.. having a fit would be a much smarter decision.

Type R. Buy it, drive it for a while and then flip it. You should make a profit.

I have a 1996 Integra the most fun car I have ever owned (and I once owned a Sunbeam Tiger). It had the unique quality of being sporty, almost fast, with good fuel use, you always felt good driving the Integra. I could carry huge loads in the back. Drawbacks: Insurance totally nuts (and I'm an old guy). Is the Fit as good? maybe, same feeling so far, insurance much better. I've only had the car a week but so far it seems to be not quite as sporty.

I spoke with my sister and she told me that if I got the type r I'd have to hang onto it for at least 6 months before i could sell it under the terms of the sale. Don't know if it would last that long though, I can't put it in my garage yet since i have my Datsun Z stored in there and doesnt run(thinking of selling it). Is the Type R still a novel thing nowadays? I mean back in the day people would get mad props thrown at them all the time but now theres plenty of cars comparable if not better. So far the only con is that it'll get stolen, and insurance, any others you guys can think of? The fit i like cause i love the look of it, fuel efficiency and i anticipate a gas increase. The cr-v would get me about 23 mpg at best which is not bad for an suv but i kinda expected better. I figure the teg would be marginally better on gas but how often do you come across a type r, much less a deal on one.

I'm still reeling about some of the deals they have though, a few weeks back they had a fully loaded 08 Civic Si sedan for 14 grand with only a couple thousand miles. You can imagine how many ppl were after that.

If you want to drive fast get the Type-R. If you want fuel economy and reliability, get the Fit. I agree with others though by saying get the Type-R anf if it doesn't pan out sell it for more.

There is nothing fast about any non force inducted teg. They are a 15-16 second car.

The Integra is 11 years old and it might need alot of work despite is milage. Unless you feeling like dumping alot of money in the car. I could probably get the fit and make it handle as well if not better. If I got the Integra i'd have to work on alot of things to make it "fast". I own a 10s car with ALOT of suspension and brake work (open track car).

Anyways good luck
