The dilemma im facing...

Ok I have given this some thought and here is my situation. I have a Fit Sport MT on order due to arrive anytime now. Now here is my dilemma, the current Fit undoubtably is a fine car and most have agreed that its the best in class. But with the next generation Fit set to release as early as next year at least in European, Asian and Australian markets, I am kinda between a rock and a hard place and here is why.

I am having a hard time deciding if I should purchase this current Fit that is new to the US market even though this generation Fit is almost 6 yrs in other world markets. Or should I wait and see what happens next year and if the next gen Fit will make it here to the US the same time it releases everywhere else?

I have also thought about if it would be worth it to purchase the Fit now and see what happens next year or the year after that and if a new Fit is released here, trade in this one for the new one. But then I am thinking if I did that, it would be a complete loss if I wanted to mod this Fit which I want to do because I would be trading it in at the latest 2 yrs later.

There is also another thing im concerned about. The current Fit has the advantage of some experience in the market to have a following in the aftermarket which the new one wont at least not for a year or two and modding is a disease im heavily infected with so I couldnt drive a stock Fit around town. Anyone have any solutions to my elaborate problem? LOL.

From the discussions I've seen on the Fit Trix board, it would seem that there are some parts that you can use now, and some that you can't. You're right that a new model would take a year or two to build aftermarket support...and then there are the "first model year" kinks that Honda will need to work out.

If I were you - I'd buy now without regret. A new model coming out soon means that your model is even rarer on the streets, and will make you look more unique. All the quality problems (if there were any to begin with) are worked out, and you can go to town with modding as soon as you drive away from the dealership.

Well - - If you want a better gas mileage Fit I would wait, there are rumors of a hybrid version. The present Fit is no better than a Civic mileagewise and a lot worse than a Prius ( but $8k less) , so-- if Honda goes with the 1 liter 3 cyl from the Insight and a little larger battery pack, with the engine inprovements over these last 6 years since the Insight was designed - it should be a winner with my estimate of 60-70 mpg. The present MT Fit isn't that great mpgwise given the horrible 5 gear ratio that has it running at such high RPM's

I agree with the first two responders for the most part. A new Fit isnt likely to enter the US market the same time it is released to the rest of the world just like this one didnt enter this market till 5 yrs after its release in other major markets.

As far as kinks though, im not too worried about that even it is a brand new model mainly cause its a Honda not a Dodge or Chyrsler. The Ridgeline is a brand new model and I havent heard any type of major problems with that that has called for any recall or made public news.

And about the rumored hybrid version coming out next year, im not really interested in that. The current Fit's mileage is enough for me, I wont be doing a whole lot of driving so that should equate to less time at the pump.

I think I will buy the current Fit now cause its going to be a 5 yr buy anyway. I am pretty sure before that 5 yrs is up the new Fit will probably make its release here even though it might already be out in other parts of the world for a year or two before coming here. And when it does, if it looks nice, is appealing and every other factor is there, ill trade this one for that one.

The things im afraid of though in the new Fit is that I am 99% sure it will be a heavier car. Sure it might also have a bit more HP then the current Fit but it will weigh at least 100lbs more then the current Fit if not more. But I am hoping it will at least have a 1.6L DOHC VTEC making minimum 140hp-150hp same as what a current Fit will make with a low boost IC-less turbo kit like the one from Top Fuel. And also from what ive seen in concept pictures, the new Fit is sleeker, much more so then the current Fit but I dont know if in this case thats necessarily a good thing cause it gives it more of an alien look then anything else. Oh well, its no use talking about the looks of a car that hasnt released yet. I'll buy the current one now and have fun with that and worry about everything else later.

Thanks to those who responded.
