Is the Fit Cursed?
Like our forum moto - Fit Happens! Being so low to the ground has it bad points and if you travel a busy highway everyday your luck is going to eventually run out. I keep dreading the first ding or scratch and it still hasn't come for my car purchased on 05/17/07. I park miles away from everyone, don't tail gate at all, the car is garaged at home. Get one of these from Japan - Japanese good luck cat and maybe things will change!

Cat :x

when the car was 3mos old, got rear ended by a hit and run, no insurance, right in front of my work, was the day after i got my tint and 2 days before i had to fly out for SEMA, didnt even have time to see a doctor
Japanese cats, "Maneki Neko"

And yes DoctorDoom, I have posted a post about driving people home without problems or accidents. Because I don't usually have people in my car. We end up talking about the unusual often times in car forums. Accidents ARE pretty unusual. Thefts or vandalism. That stuff doesn't happen every day.
Likewise, adding something new to the Fit also is reported here. Or trying something new, like the things that fit in a Fit.

I think its just the luck of the draw. My first new car was a 1995 Honda Civic. The first day I had it my dad drove it for me because it was pouring down rain and I was afraid I was going to wreck it since I wasn't familiar with it.
He pulled into a parking space and SCRAPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE......
Scratched the underside of the bumper with a parking marker.
Then, a month later, I moved my car from a gravel lot to a nicer lot and got a ride with my brother somewhere. We came back and it was dark and raining. I got home and the next day my mother said, "what's wrong with your bumper?"
A woman who worked with me had hit it hard enough to scrape all the way across and up on top of the bumper (thankfully only on plastic, not metal).
That said, I loved that car better than any I've owned since. My 1998 Civic also got nailed, at about 45 on an interstate from a girl not paying attention (who also worked the same place as me).
And my latest car, a 2000 Altima took its licks when I backed out of my garage without realizing how close I was to the side. My breakaway mirror only worked once.
Hmmm.... maybe I need one of those cats.

I never said I didn't love the car. Maybe that's why crumpling the fender hurts so much. I will get the Fit fixed and hope to own it for many years to come.
I'm still gonna get me one of those cats.

I'd share all of my car accident stories but I'm afraid to screw with their 'carma'
so I'm only going to share the Fit stuff.
I've had two incidents with the Fit so far. First a tree branch landed on the roof and dented it badly enough that the paintless dent removal folks said "sorry!" and it had to have bodywork. I attribute that directly to the paper-thin sheetmetal on the car; our Jeep was sitting right next to the Fit, the same branch hit it too, and there is nary a scratch on the car.
Second, a deer rammed the side of the car, taking out the driver's side mirror, denting the back door badly enough that it needed to be reskinned, and generally scaring the bejeezus out of me. This happened 1/2 mile from home, a week after I got the car back from having the roof fixed.
I sure hope these revelations don't bring on incident #3. Off now to check out Maneki Neko. Hmmm. Come to think of it, our cats seem to love the Fit; I regularly see them sitting on top of it, and I routinely find cat paw prints on the windshield and roof...

thats how I felt, but I can't stand seeing my vehicles with body damage, especially new cars. The paint and metal is too thin on the car, even though it has decent crash ratings, I don't feel too safe in the fit
Well, that's how crash ratings are won. The idea is that the car absorbs the crash energy to protect the occupants. That energy is "absorbed"-by destroying the car!
The car does seem a bit too "fragile" to me, though.

i bought my car june last year....a month later after i dropped it, in a real dark road i ran over a bunch of nails and crap that probably came out of a construction truck and resulted on my back tires going flat and a bunch of scratches on the back fender. a week later hanging out at my house having a few, my friend with his pacsun belt that has a bunch of metal ridges around it leaned allover the passenger side of my car throughout the night and i woke up to that whole side scratched up....my friends mom backed in to my car and scratched the bumper....and last week someone destroyed the hell out of my driver side fender....

Exxactly! no such thing as curse ................................
(as I throw a pinch of salt over my left shoulder, make the sign of the cross and beg Allah for forgiveness for letting woman out of house without berka and veil....)
Have you tried making doll of person who cause this problems to this cars and sticking nails in eyeball sockets???

It may not be cursed, but it sure is a SHIT MAGNET! And something about the fit automatically signals other vehicles to tailgate it, no matter what speed you are going, or what lane you are in. They just want to be 3 inches off the bumper.
I hear that!
I'm beginning to think that I must have a bullseye painted on the car. I no sooner got the car back from the body shop and twice last night, somebody cut me off turning left in front of me. I'm beginning to feel safer (and more visible) on my motorcycle.

Speaking of fragility, the Fit did not fare too well in low speed crash tests:
Insure.com - Minicar bumpers are expensive to repair
and I saw that bumper basher test. It said average cost of a 3-5mph bumper bash test resulted in $2k worth of damage. I seriously want to find a way to make a Tube style Off Road Steel front and rear bumper, that mounts under the bumper cover like a tow hitch, to the tow hitch points, and to the rebar, rear impact bar mounts. It may add a few pounds, but it will prevent a car/suv from driving THROUGH the fit. The fit makes me feel like I am driving my own coffin, which is something I have never felt in any honda. Even the CRX's felt more sturdy
