Is the Fit Cursed?

Thread after thread here makes me start to wonder. A Fit gets egged. The other GE8 in my town gets sideswiped within its first few weeks on the road. there's an epidemic of cracked windshields and stolen wheels. I drive over a rock on a dirt road and buckle the front fender. What's going on here? is this all just "bad luck"? Is the Fit unusually fragile? Or is there some kind of cosmic conspiracy against these cars, some sort of "bad karma" ("carma?") at work here?

Today I have to start the ball rolling with insurance and body shops to get my car fixed. I haven't had an insurance claim in 15 years. I own a Fit for only two months and WHAM!

What are your thoughts? Did I blunder into some deep seated cosmic conpiracy by buying this car, or is it all just coincidence and dumb luck? Is the Fit more prone to bad luck than other cars, or is it just because I discovered car forums about the time I bought the Fit, and I get to hear about everyone elses troubles?

I don't know man every time I've had an issue it hasn't been extraordinary...it's not fragile, if anything it may follow the blunt nosed little car trend, just stay far behind other cars to avoid that issue.

I think you just joined a car forum and realized that cars in general get messed up, it's the unfortunate nature of the beast, but it's not like it's only Fit's, you are just on a Fit forum.

Besides the stone chips on the front from me not taking the advice above initially, which is fixed since I replaced the whole front end after a hit and run--the Fit has been otherwise resilient.

I'll admit, my original post was a bit "tongue in cheek". I know that part the reason for the existence of a forum is to give people a place to complain, gripe, bellyache and comiserate about their common interest. I'm sure that if I'd spent any time on the Dodge Neon forum, for example, I'd have found the same stuff there.

FWIW, my insurance company doesn't seem to think the car is "bad luck". My insurance actually went DOWN when I bought the Fit. That had never happened before.

hmm i honestly dont know its its cursed or its bad luck... i owned my car for about hmm not too sure i guess a year or acouple months... my car was drop with rims and spoiler at that time... i was in two car accidents ones a Harley Davison bike hit me long story short everyone was okay but my cars passenger side and the bike... then later... like a week later that... long story short too... did something stupid and and hit a crub soo hard that i flew up and hit another curb and hit my oil pan.. making it push my motor up and broke a motor mount... totalled the car.... =( so i guess you can say that its just all bad luck on your side not the car.... yet you have to see it in a different way that things happens for a reason.... so then later bought the car back and made a promise to it =P and BAM!!! now everyones drolling =P so i guess you just have to see it in a different way =)

So far, after 8 months of ownership, my Fit's only mishap is me forgetting to apply the E brake after I parked it for the night, where it rolled forward (while I was sleeping in my house) and hit a wooden fence.

And so far, not a single ding or scratch, which is a good luck sign, not bad luck.

Like our forum moto - Fit Happens! Being so low to the ground has it bad points and if you travel a busy highway everyday your luck is going to eventually run out. I keep dreading the first ding or scratch and it still hasn't come for my car purchased on 05/17/07. I park miles away from everyone, don't tail gate at all, the car is garaged at home. Get one of these from Japan - Japanese good luck cat and maybe things will change!

A relative was driving my Fit, and I was riding, and we hit what looked like a piece of guard rail in the road. Instant flat tire. Five. Hours. After I bought it.

I changed insurance companies and my fit get's hit right around midnight the night the insurance transferred over, in front of my driveway so I am fixing it myself, Have sanding stuff, primer, basemaker, clearcoat, dupont paint to OEM code, reducer, all transtar. The fit has also caught a nail in the tire, and broken 3 fog lamps. Of course it's almost 30k miles in 1 year, on shitty roads. The paint is messed up from 1 use of my Yakima rack. The paint is truly crappy on these cars. It makes me wish I bought something more substantial like another accord.

I went out side two weeks ago only to find my antenna unscrewed and tossed in the car through a window crack, and all of my wind shield wipers lifted up. The night before someone loosened my lugs on one of my wheels. Started driving only to hear this strange noise and all the lugs on the rear passenger side wheel were loose as hell. It pissed me off mostly cause thats dangerous shit! Luckly I always like to drive with the volume low or off lately just to listen for any noise. I worry to much. The pranks are prolly cause I'm rolling around in a stock fit with an exhaust on a campus full of ignorant rednecks. But if I ever catch the guy thats doing it (I can see the car from my window in the dorm) I've got a steel bat with his name on it.

The secret. The law of attraction. Ask believe receive. You live what you make out to be. Will power overcomes all.

the reason you think it's "cursed" is because you're on a car forum on the internet. you will hear a LOT of horror stories and mishaps. you will not hear a lot of stories like, "i drove my fit and dropped everyone off at school today and then came home. no accidents." it just seems like a lot of bad things are happening because here on the internet you will find a treasure chest of complaints and horror stories. that's the reason; it's just statistical.

For me, I don't think it's the Fit. I think I'm just cursed when it comes to car vandalism. I've had crap happen to all of my cars.

In high school, someone keyed the side of my '93 Escort wagon while I was parked on the street at a friend's house.

In college, my Focus ZX3 got floured while I was out of town for a weekend--my car was parked in my driveway, and when I got back, it was covered in flour that had half baked on to the surface because it had been sitting all weekend through late summer Michigan weather--dew in the morning, hot sun all afternoon. That was a pain to get off.

A year later, someone threw bricks through my Focus' windshield while I was in a store at a strip mall. My car was right out in the parking lot with all the other cars. The roof, hood, A-pillar, and headlights were all messed up from that.

And then the egging incident happened the other night with my Fit.

I can't figure it out. None of these things have ever been done by someone I know. I'm pretty much a really low-key quiet person who gets along well with everyone. My cars have all been completely stock with no mods of any sort. I'm not flashy. Why do random strangers have it out for my cars so much?

We hit a skunk last night. Couldn't see the blasted thing on the wet roads. Fortunately we straddled it instead of hitting with a tire. The car has a bit of skunky smell that should disappear in a few days.

Time for new bulbs, or a headlight harness.

Cat is right. I got this good luck cat in Sapporo in 1951 and haven't had any bad luck since.

Cheers.

I need to get me one of those good luck cats, because if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any at all

The real "good luck cats" are beckoning cats (like in Cat's picture). You'd need to get several, depending upon the sort of luck you want. It's very technical--depends on color, which paw is up, whether it has a bell, or is holding a coin.

No matter what, though, I'm sure there'd be no more dings in the Fit.

Cheers

My Invisible Blue Fit

Purchased Fit First Day it was release. Own for 3 years. Hit in REAR 6 times. I have 4 bumper & 1 hatch replacement. You think people would see me with bright Blue fit. Total of all repairs cost more than trade in value. People who hit me, was in SUV & minivan (1 time: person on cell phone) (1 time: person with learner permit) (2 times: raining) (2 times: people didn’t pay attend). Any one beat my record?

I had to trade in Fit for Element SC (people see me now!)

Holy moley! Whatever you do, don't take up motorcycling, with luck like that.
