Extra Tinting, cost estimate

Just curious, I'm thinking about having the windows tinted darker and would like to have them done at the dealership - what are the costs involved in something like this? I'm hoping to negotiate a bit with this, so just wanted a ballpark figure on a Fit Tinting :-)

When I was bored and waiting on my salesguy to do whatever he was doing concerning the paperwork, I leafed through the Accessories Booklet they keep on all their desks.

I seem to recall the tinting there was $199. Didn't mention if that included labor costs or not. I tried to get them to throw in tinting on the car, since they wouldn't budge on the MSRP, but they wouldn't do it.

I did get it done at the dealership. I was really lucky... the dealer's tint guy happened to be there doing all the other Fits (The dealer decided they looked "dumb" without tinting, lol) when I picked mine up.

He told me that it usually goes for $399 (!!), but he cut me a deal. I got my back windows and hatch window done pretty dark (I don't know what %); the front windows were untouched.

The main reason I wanted it is because I have the black interior, and I'm hoping this will help keep my car cool during the summer.

I swear I'm going to have pictures soon...

Interesting...which dealership did you get yours at?

Do the tinted windows affect night driving much? That's always been on the back of my head.

The dealer here in nashville,TN will only tint 35% due to state law. However the place that does it will do 20% at their shop. So it might depend on where your at and what the law is for dark tint. I know here the police rarely bother you for tint.

I had my Fit tinted the day after I took it home. I got the $ 225 job which has a lifetime guarantee. I could have got a $ 175 job, but there would be a shorter guarantee, and less optically clear. It looks great, so I had the shop do my Subaru too.

I have mine scheduled for May 6 for a 20 percent tint for 140.00 with a lifetime guarantee. He has done 3 of my other vehicles.

There are shops in Oklahoma that specialize in tinting as well as alarms. You can get most cars tinted for $100 or less. That is with high end tint film. The guy next door works for one of them.
Why let the dealer rob you any more than you have to.

I've been paying 150-180$ CDN, depending on vehicle, for Llumar Platnium Plus tint. This tint is of higher quality, doesn't fade over time (I had one window redone 3 years later, no difference in colour) and is polarized, so it's a bit lighter at night.

I have reasonably good night night vision, and have had tint on my cars for over 15 years. At first I was paying for cheap 35% film that wasn't easy to see through, and my last 4 cars have had 20% Platnium Plus, and I see better at night than I did before.

Here's a tiny pic that shows the tint nicely on my GS-R.

I'm paying $275 for mine in San Diego. I could find a place cheaper, but wouldn't get the lifetime guarantee against fading and bubbling. I balked at the price initially, but the guy pointed out there are 9 windows (not including the windshield) on this thing.

Sure there are nine, but two of them are the size of a postage stamp, ok a dozen postage stamps.

Okay! I've got pictures up! Only the back and hatch are tinted... I have no idea why the front windows look so dark (it was kind of overcast this morning when I took them).

dancingsun: I got my Fit from Honda of Pasadena. They were really awesome; they love me there, haha. I was there almost everyday last week! How embarassing. I'm such a nerd.

Annie, nice photos and congrats on the car. How much did the dealer charge you for it? Did they guarantee?

They cut me a deal with the tint because I kept badgering him about it, but I'm not at will to discuss it because I promised him I'd keep it all a secret.

There's no written guarantee, but I remember saying, "Um, this isn't going to bubble or anything in a year, right?" and he said, "No, this stuff is solid forever." He's got it on his own car, so I believe him.

Very nice. I have a blue Fit Sport m/t and I am considering tinting. Your picture gives me a good idea of how it will look. I am convinced that I will like it. I'm doing this primarily for heat reduction and some privacy, but looks are important too.

$199 for all windows tinted including the brow on the front windshield in Long Island, NY. My car looks EXACTLY like Squid's above.
