Hi there everyone, I have been selling Hondas going on 7 years now. The MOST important thing to me is cutomer satisfaction. However I believe what Jesus did was inappropriate. I can see how you think you were helping, however what if this girl really had her heart set on the XA, what if she loved it, what if it was her first car and she couldnt stand the excitment about buying it. Then a stranger walks up to her and says, by the way, you are making a huge mistake, for the same money you can have a much nicer car.... People are nervous enough about purchsing a new car, they doubt the entire process and she was ready to take delivery and you put a black cloud over that.
I would have handled it diferently, I would have asked if you needed help, if you said no I would politley ask you to leave. I would also let you know that I didnt appreciate what you did. I am sure my Manager would not have a problem with that. Like I said, what you did was inappropriate and in poor taste.

I beg to differ. My philosophy is simple. Give a customer a good deal and make it easy, they will send you refferals. So I may not make a lot of money on them at first but I am now selling them 2nd, 3rd 4th cars as well as their kids, friends and co-workers.
I am not attempting to get ignorant with you Jesus however I was wondering what you do for a living? I have to feed my son, my wife and pay for our home. Selling cars is how I make a living, however I work in the same small town I sell cars so my reputation it more important than my paycheck.
I still stand behind my statement. I would not go into best buy and go up to someone buying a TV and say, You know I saw that Sears had that TV cheaper. It is not my place. That person has the right to choose what and where they buy a product. I assume that they are making a well informed decision, hence I would not interfere, which is all you did. you think you came in there and saved this girl, you may have ruined her buying experience, dont you agree?

Jesus get over yourself. You think your some kind of charming hero who did nothing wrong to deserve the scron of the salesman, but clearly everyone thinks you're a douche.
The girl was happy, she "loved the xA." The salesman was happy. You ruined it for them. So what if she never heard about the Fit. Ignorance is bliss, she was happy about her decision on the xA.
It's not like choosing the xA over the Fit is a horrible decision either. They're both great cars. I like the Fit better than the xA, but I would have kept that opinion to myself since her heart was clearly set on the xA.
And why are you saying the people on the thread have no life? You're the one who has nothing better to do than hang out at dealerships when you have no intention of buying and ruining people's day.

Just to throw my two cents in. I can see how Jesus thought he might be doing the right thing. That said, I don't think it was the right thing for the following reasons:
1. Interferring in a transaction in progress is both rude, and working directly against the establishment you are in. The Toyota dealer is there to sell Toyotas, and (inside their doors) have every right to to tell you not to promote competitors brands in their place of business.
2. That car dealer had just worked hard to close a sale. Walking into his dealership, into the middle of a deal about to be closed, and prompting the customer to stop and go look at another brand of car is stealing food right out of the guys mouth. This is totally different than if she were in a gas station talking about how she was going to go buy a new xA, and advising her to go check out Honda. She was already there and signing the paperwork.
3. It's the buyer's responsibilty to educate themselves on their purchasing options before making a purchase that involves (in most cases) substantial payments over the next five years of their lives. If she suddenly sees a Honda Fit two days later and realizes she should have checked them out, it's her fault for not doing her homework.
4. The xA is a very similar car to the Fit and both have a very good reputation. Your preference for the fit does not make it a _fact_ that the fit is twice as good.
That said, I can still see your intentions were well meant. Just misplaced.

Actually, the FIT spanked the Yaris in the interior and handling department in the Car & Driver comparo. The Yaris has been getting lukewarm reviews at best while the FIT has garnered widespread acclaim in North America.
Yeah, if the girl had been anyone's sister here... I'm sure you would be reacting the same way. I'm sure you'd be like: "What, some stranger DARED to suggest you look at a car that's just been released and has side curtains standard, best in class handling and interior? I'll kill him!"
It's just easier and more controversial to fight for the poor salesman. Please continue.

I hate to weigh in on this, because I handled the last argument so well, but JESUS! Everyone is telling you you were wrong, and providing solid well constructed arguments why you were wrong, and you respond with name calling and outright denial.
You mentioned being in a Sony store with a friend, and mentioning Dell. Your argument is flawed at that point, because this girl was not your friend. From what I read in your post, that was the first time you had ever seen her. You had no business even talking to her in that setting, unless you had alterior motives.
So, what? Were you trying to get into her pants? Pretty lame opening line. I should think bolstering her decision, and offering to help her properly adjust the pitot static device would have been better.
Bottom line is you were wrong. Accept that and move on.

Nope. I am right. By your logic, one is never justified in speaking to another stranger. That pretty much means that, to everyone stranger you've ever spoken to, you were out of line, right? Here's the bottom line that so many idiots here fail to see... You morons seem to think that because you're in a Toyota dealership, you must either sing praise for their products or you can't say anything at all.
It was a conversation between people. Whether I knew her or not is irrelevant. The girl wasn't offended, but the salesman who lives off of commission sure as hell was. He got pissed off at a conversation that did not involve him.
I could be in a Ford dealership and say OUTLOUD that I would buy a Toyota over a Ford based on resale value and I wouldn't be wrong. I could be in the GAP and say that I prefer J.CREW and I wouldn't be wrong.
Get it through your thick skulls, idiots. Freedom of Speech.

Anyway in my opinion Honda FIT overall are great (especially when it compare to Yaris) But thats just me.
Peace to you all..

It's funny that they are talking about this on a Scionlife thread.

The opinion there seems to be he was wrong.

LMAO.
Soo... if you're at Electronic Boutique (or EBX or whatever) and you're about to spring for an XBOX 360 and I inform you that the PS3 is being previewed and presold next door at Kaybee, I should be kicked out? No, of course not. But because some douchebag salesman who unreasonably got offended has a family to feed (there goes that darned emotional element again) and relies on commission, I was in the wrong. LMAO.
This is what it boils down to... the poor salesman who's got a family to feed and the big bad wolf who "voiced" his opinion to another. Of course the sheep are gonna do the dramatic salesman and the family defense. People just love drama.

What an interesting conversation. If a car salesman ever tried to come between me and the guiding hand of Jesus, I would be the one terminating his position as my salesman. Two people can talk about what ever they want to talk about especially at a car dealership. It's none of the salesman's concern what my relationship is with Jesus.
