A friend of mine in Hamilton had his best month for sales since 2002 this past June (23 new 1 used). I am also speculating there won't be any huge incentives on the Fit no matter when or what you decide to purchase. My suggestion is to either buy an '09 by late summer or you may not get one at all or as some guys are saying buy the 2010 in December since its the new styles second year (in Canada) either way I don't see a huge difference except for maybe a couple hundred bucks (MSRP ddifference) after the initial change-over. When you do purchase, here's a tip, most dealers in the GTA will sell a Fit for $200-$500 over dealer net if they have it in stock. I hope this helps.
Thanks for the info; I think I'm pretty well decided on only waiting as long as it takes for the 2010's to come out - Now do you suggest I make my way to a dealership at the end of the summer and actually order/put a payment on a 2010? This is my first new purchase so I have no idea if I even _can_ do that, just trying to scout my options now that I'm decided on grabbing a '10 Sport MT asap.

Also; any tips on accessories that are actually worth it in the initial purchase? so far I've got all-season mats for sure.

That's just wishful thinking though

Wishful Thinking indeed...Most sub compact/ compact cars in this price range, sold in the US, have drums. Sucks for us, though I don't mind rear drum brakes. Disc brakes look much better imo.

I wouldn't rush in to put an order in....the Fit sells well but not so well you will miss out if you wait. Since you are waiting for the 2010's just go in a week or so before you want to buy to check everything out and get a feel for the store. As far as accessories, winter mats are a must in Canada and possibly a trunk protector/tray. Most accessories you can save quite a bit of money by not buying it from the dealership but the protection packages are worth the bit extra just for the fit and finish (pun not intended). Everyone here can help you find the best places to buy specific accessories in around the GTA to save you some cash.

Thanks man I appreciate it.

Some things I've been thinking that would be nice to have is the armrest with storage, the side sill garnish, and the interior trim kit "sounds" nice (I'm still having a hard time picturing exactly the difference the interior trim kit would make, - anyone have pictures of with/without ?) -

But I have a feeling for the extra cost I could do without that kinda stuff... or at least like you said, opt for shopping around the GTA later.

i'd avoid the protection package and just get the car rustchecked every year. Honda doesn't back up their rust protection package. i'm looking at buying a new Fit as well but the dealers can't find an LX automatic in tidewater blue. i'm hoping that maybe they'd give us a deal on something else since we can't get what we want.

I agree about the rust protection...I think it is a great idea to get it but not from the dealership....huge mark-up....When I said the protection package I was speaking about the all weather mats and the trunk tray though not the rust proofing...sorry for the misinterpretation. A site that may help you also with getting a better deal when you do go is www.honda-cars-insider-advice.com they have dealer net pricing listed free and tell you how to negotiate at a Honda store. A client of mine used it and said it was pretty good but had lots of free info. Helped her get a good deal from me thats for sure.

Thanks Nojac - great info; and now I see what the interior trim really is; limited color choice but the red looks pretty good.

About to check out that site you mentioned... but on the topic of getting great deals :P Anyone recommend going through an Auto Broker here in the GTA, or is it not really necessary to get a good deal?

I don't think a broker is necessary, especiaally on the Fit. They will get the car to you for a few hundred over dealer net include all the incentives (if there are any) and then will charge you another couple hundred for doing the work. You can put out an e-mail blast to all the local dealers stating what you want to buy and that you have a dealer in say Burlington that has agreed to a price of $X out the door or OTD($400 over dealer net less any incentives) and you were hoping to save yourself the drive if you can getthe same price locally. Make sure you e-mail enough dealers and it will work out, it did on me. Hope that helps. I actually stole that idea from that Honda site in the negotiating section. LOL

heh right on - so just for sake of real numbers... Dealer Invoice here in the GTA on the '09 Fit Sport MT is $18,130 - So what OTD price would I "say" I got from the dealership in burlington, or that I could use as a "This is how much I'm willing to pay OTD" number.

Thats the part I'm having trouble with at the moment.

What you would say is you have a price of $22613.00 give or take. That is approximately $400.00 over dealer net. 18130 + 400 (profit) + 1395 (freight and pdi) + 175 (air and gas tax) x 1.13 (GST and PST) = $22713.00 - $100 (fuel conservation credit) = $22613.00. As long as it is in stock you should be able to get it for around this price, although they may come back with a higher number thats why you have to e-mail a bunch of stores and then pick the best.

what about negotiating a few extras like a block heater, extra steel rims (for winter tires) and locking lugnuts?

I'm sure you could do that also instead of discounting the price as heavily. It wouldn't make a difference to the dealer. I was also going to let you know that there is another $500 available on the '09 manual transmissions for July. That $500 is listed under trading dollars, just let the dealer know you are aware of it. A block heater I think you can get for about $125 locking wheel nuts are 19.99 at Canadian Tire and steel wheel with tires are about $650-$900 the rims by themselves you can pick up for $50-60 new and I've seen $20-35 used.

Thanks for your time Nojac, great information - Appreciate it.

These prices and the July $500 you just mentioned won't be applicable to my purchase though actually; I plan to wait and grab a 2010 when it comes out. Of course the price for that could likely be higher by then no?

The pricing for the 2010's will probably only be a couple hundred bucks higher max. Honda doesn't really raaise the prices very much from year to year. Of course the incentives will be quite limited when the 2010's first come out but that is not as significant with the Fit's since it is only ever a few hundred dollars anyway. As far as the auto trans.....I am not too sure what is happening with them....from what I have heard the incentives are going to remain virtually unchanged into August.....but then again I have been given false info before.

I could see that since $500.00 of it comes directly from Honda. That way they only have to chip in an extra $250.00. They would get from the profit margin and then it sounds like a pretty big discount, especially on a car that only holds $1000.00 -$1300.00 total profit.

i'm trying to get a Sport Auto in orange, they seem hard to get now. does it make sense that a dealer would say that they can get one but at an extra cost to me??? are they bluffing me to change my color to one they have in stock?
