KSPORT KONTROL PRO COILOVERS HONDA FIT GD1 01+:eBay Motors (item 220272296736 end time Aug-17-09 13:15:19 PDT)

TOTAL
$3674 in upgrades

not including the Infiniti FX35 bixenon projector HID headlights that cost me $800 but there is no website for them

$4474 including the headlights

Maybe I can get more money this way? Or at least convince him to let me keep some stuff that is not necessary to be on the car such as the trunk cage, front lower armbar, progress sway, c-pillar, tow hook...it wouldn't make sense for him to say my car is worth NO MORE than any other Fit I see for sale that is completely stock and higher mileage (I only had 14,000 on the clock!!!!!!!!)

This is such bullshit and I get madder by the minute

I would pull out your bars (if they aren't damaged).
Quickshifter (if you have the stock one)
Exhaust (if you have the stock)
Visors
shift knob
tow hooks

When my xB was totaled it looked like this before

I made sure I got everything that I could off the car and replace them w/ stock parts. You are in no way going to get the full retail for the parts you had on the car let alone much for it especially for wheels/tires/lugs/shift knobs, visors.

Good Luck

You have to declare after market parts to your insurance company before the accident, and if you want them covered you have to pay extra for that insurance. Your only hope is to replace all your after market parts with stock parts. If you can't do that then they just take the car as is. They aren't going to let you strip the car, because they are paying you a lump sum for ownership of the car, instead of paying a higher amount to fix the car. Their goal is to either fix the car up and resell it, or strip it themselves, so obviously they aren't going to let you take parts out without replacing them. That's why insurance companies total cars, because it's cheaper for them.

They won't let me get anything. I'm meeting the insurance guy at the junkyard Monday so I'm going to politely talk to him about my predicament and how I feel wronged in this situation that was not my fault to begin with. I want my stuff back and he should give me a week or two to find OEM tires/wheels and shift linkage and center console...

Document everything. You probably have receipts for all the parts? Photos showing the parts installed? Take LOTS of images of the car when you meet the insurance guy. Showing the additional custom/modified parts.

Find out if you can sue the person who cut in front for the extra. I have NO idea if you can do that or not. But you WILL need documentation of the vehicle's condition and parts.

On the other hand, when you add on parts and don't have them covered by insurance, or listed, you may give up rights to claim them. If your home burned down or was flood damaged, and you'd just bought $10,000 in electronics without letting the insurance company know, they probably wouldn't cover it.

It should be HER insurance covering the loss. Not yours. So that you SHOULD be able to have all the items included in the value of the vehicle. If they give you a check, it's THEIR vehicle then. You can't remove anything. You might be able to buy items from the scrapyard where it goes.

But if you're getting a different car, so why would you want them?

Unfortunately, TS posted earlier that he doesn't have the receipts, still, he should document, with printouts of the cost of the parts from the web(he said he'd do that) and photos, everything he's done to the car.

That's probably the best bet, threaten (nicely) to go to court for the extra $$, unless they let trance remove the parts after they decide to just pay the standard value of the vehicle.

As far as the house, that's not really how it works, generally, a homeowner policy will have coverage for the "contents" of the home. As long as you have the receipts for anything you've purchased, or photos of them in the house, they should be covered, no matter if you had purchased them the day before. Some things are handled differently, like jewlery and antiques, you generally need an additional rider to cover those, but electronics would be covered with the contents part of the policy, as long as you can prove you bought them.

My ex was/is an insurance agent, so I'm fairly certain about the house stuff. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue about the car mods, and TS would have to promise to send me the Mugen shifter to get me to call her and ask about it Name: whistling.gif

Agree with her insurance should cover them, it's just a matter of will they, and even if they do, no telling how much they would depreciate them. Best bet is going to be if they are willing to work something out to give TS base value on the totaled car, and let him get his parts off of it.

He wants them back so he can sell them to a bunch of freaks on some Fit website

Good luck with everything, TS, hope it works out for you.

It'd be nice if there was an FitFreak auto insurance agent who's a member of this site who could weigh in with how the companies handle these kinds of situations.

Quoted for Truth!!! Its either an all or nothing type of thing. If they see it with that stuff on they are going to price it out that way and you will not be able to take the parts off cause they have included it in the amount that they would give you if it is totaled. The insurance guy will take pictures of everything on Monday when you meet with him. All he is an investigator/claims person. He has nothing to do with the check write out. So trying to persuade him will do nothing.

Again I recommend that you go take off what you can today and tomorrow. Like I said you are not going to get nearly what you paid for with your aftermarket parts even if you have the receipts. I had receipts for everything that was on my xB (roughly about 5-6K in extras) they only added 2K on to my pay out total for the aftermarket parts.

This has happened to me so i know what your going through. Hopefully my advice is helpful but ultimately it is your decision on what to do.

Good Luck

I just got off work, and the tow guy said he won't let me take anything off until the adjuster comes on monday. He said it's my insurance company's car now. I have no receipts, but plenty of pics on myspace/facebook of all my mods and went on the web to find their prices and printed that out. I'll show him when I see him. I'll show him the KBB value of my car.

Suggested Retail Value - $16,360 for excellent, which the car was, it only had 14k mi.

I owe just under $14,000....so with all these mods, I should get a few thousand back.

If it ends up being dead square even, or me having to actually PAY if they think it's worth less than $14,000...then I'm going to court. With pictures to prove my mods, to prove the condition of the vehicle, I'll need a pic of the odo but the battery is dead so I'm screwed on that ****...

trade-in value

excellent $12,500
good $11,800
fair $10,550

This is looking like I'm going to be heading to court, and suing the girl who was at fault. I'm picking up the police report on Monday or Tuesday.

Yah, it would be unfortunate to have to go to court, but do what you need to do (well, legally ofcourse ) to get back everything.

Since she hit you regardless of impact angle don't mention "you hit her" like in your original post cause it could mislead the insurance claim.

Well I hit her head-on, so it could be seen as me smashing straight into her front-right side at 40mph....god damn that was a scary moment. All I could do was stomp the brakes and scream OH SHIT!! and then I got out the car, got my friend out of the smoking inside, and yelled the F word SO loud the whole state must have heard it...

Anyway, I just spent the last hour printing up bank statements and paypal records of most of the stuff I bought for the car. Now, I have ****ing proof to throw in the insurance guys' face. It's a huge stack of ****, nice and neat with included pictures of bought items installed on my vehicle. I copied each and every page, and if I don't get reimbursed nicely for my $4,000 worth of parts, someone's going to court!

Should I give this stack of proven documentation to the claims rep that goes to see the car on Monday? I'm going to meet him there regardless. Just because I love my car and want to see it get treated right.

That sucks man

Dont get the S2000. I came from a 2001 S2000 like that one and dont regret it. Its still slow. They look nice and all but to get ANY kind of power from it at all you have to rev it to at LEAST 6000. City driving you never go past 4000, plus it has no torque. Plus mine was modded. After 3rd gear its like the car is barely moving. At first it will feel fast and its somewhat fast, but after a month or so youll realize how slow it really is. And with all the bolt ons in the world you wont get more than 20whp.

an s2k from a fit though, will feel totally different. I have never owned a car with more than 130hp. There's no possible way the s2k will feel slow to me compared to the other 4 Hondas I owned.

Thats what I said when I first bought mine. The S2000 is still the fastest car ive ever owned, but under 6000 rpm it feels just like the Fit. It was a blast for the first month.

If you do get an S2K get at least an 02-03. 01's still have the plastic rear window and the carpeted interior console.
