Getting the Fit I want for the price that fits.

Getting the Fit I want for the price that fits.
I am embarking on another auto buying adventure - my fifth in my five years of being licensed at sixteen - and am seriously looking into the Fit. No other compact offers what it does. I have come across some issues, however.
There is quite literally only one Fit Sport MT within 250mi of me (Boise, ID) at dealerships. Understandably, the one dealership that has it, has it for $1000 above MSRP, at $17,260. Didn't even bother to change the last three numbers. Also, the salesman made a point to say that other dealers will mark up their prices above MSRP, while they do not.
I do not want to pay that much for this car. They are giving top dollar for my trade in. There's also some balanced owed on the trade in. When they broke out the four square sheet, the monthly came to $317. Not what I want to pay.
So I ask you; how could I go about talking them down? Should I say another dealership said they'd ship in the same one for less?
Also, my trade in has an extended warranty, which is part of the balance due. When I trade in, do I just go to the dealer that sold me that vehicle and warranty and ask them to cut me a check? That's what the salesman said I would have to do.
Of the two dealerships that sell new Hondas in my area, i've been to one and will see what the other has to say tomorrow.
Thank you.

Got relatives (or friends) in any large cities? Time to visit them. Use the internet and their zip for quotes. Tell your local dealer you're going to visit family anyway and will turn it into a car buying trip if they won't do better.
Worked for us, though our dealer wasn't a huge tool to start with (they at least offered us 300 under MSRP, as opposed to the 1k under we eventually got).

I was just in Seattle with my fiance's family and even Seattle only has two. But I could still use that as leverage.
I am goin to a competitor today. I drew up a four square with the price being 15,420 with a monthly of 270 and 10,000 trade. I'm going to take that in and tell them that's what I want.

Heh what's that for?
I thought I'd check I out so I did. It's almost as good as a new car. The radio doesn't work and they said they'll fix that. And they low-balled my "max" monthly payment by 37 bucks.
