The article is about Chrystler considering offering a subcompact (eww). They also mention other sales numbers for April, including the Fit.

Considering the Fit came out on the 20th of April in most parts of the country, almost 3800 in 10 days isnt bad. If the Fit came out the same time as the Yaris, it would have easily outsold it at the rate it sold in 10 days. The sales would be more then that because the demand is there but there arent enough Fits to go around to suit people's configuration unlike a Civic or Accord.

Beat by Yaris - ouch! We will see what happens in a full month.

Encouraging to see that they are all doing well. Maybe this segment will grow.

The article did mention the Fit was only in its second month of sales, but that must include pre-orders. I think many more peoople will be ordering them once they can actually see and drive one.

Now why would Chrysler go to China for a sub-compact? Their owners, Mercedes-Benz have the A Class and the Smart.....

I figured the sale of the Yaris would be up there, but damn not that high... I can't believe the sales of the mini went down that much...

Excellent point, but maybe daddy isn't sharing. The A-class is a very nice looking car, but if some people think the Fit is expensive, how well might the A fair in the NA market?

Well, one will never see a "working class" Benz in the US (check prices in Europe, they are cheaper there and all do not come with climate control and full options) but with the current Sprinter arrangement, maybe there is a shot?

I have lost touch over time, not sure where the A is built, if it is (Western) Germany, then yes, importation and labor will make it expensive. If production in East Europe or outside the EU, then maybe.

But then, a Fit in Europe is about $6000+ more than here?

no surprise yaris sells well. it's so damn cheap. it's only a matter of time before people realize you don't have to settle for hand cranked windows and crap radio in an economic car

remember all of us including me used to think fit is overpriced? now i know it's not sure. a yaris equipped w/ the same stuff as fit costs 17k
