Two Fits Hit in Earthquake in Sumatra

Saw this in BBC World News

BBC NEWS | In Pictures | In pictures: Sumatra earthquake

The earthquake pictures feature two fits, one looks modded. Also the picture of the blue fit looks kinda badass, almost looks like it burst through the wall.

You're making Fit angry. You wouldn't like Fit when it's angry.

Please tell me that the two fits that got hit are not your biggest concerns when it comes to a catastrophic event like this earthquake?

People have different ways of dealing with or relating to disaster or tragedy.

It is necessary for the human mind to do some selective blocking. And to forget.

Because the need to live has to surpass the pain seen or experienced.

What woman would wish to bear another child, if the pain of childbirth remained fresh in her mind? Who would choose to do their jobs, to do their hobbies, to just go about their daily lives, if they could completely recall the pain of a broken bone, the injury that occurred.

Last time I had the flu, I thought I was going to die. And that's just the flu. If I could recall the heaving and puking and all the rest, I'd never want to be among human beings again. Because the risk is only from being around other human beings.

There are some people that have seen or experienced things they cannot forget. Veterans for instance. Things so disturbing, that it makes it impossible to return to any semblance of normalcy.

The are people "indoctrinated" to gradually become accustomed to the severe and mind-boggling experiences. And "indoctrinated" is a very good term.

I WANT my doctor NOT to get upset over blood and guts and broken bones. I want my doctor to remain calm, and observant. I want that doctor to assess the situation without emotion, and to do their best at doing what they can to fix the battered body in front of them.

This can work negatively too, such as in torture or wars. Whereby people discard humanity, in a careless regard, and go on to consider a human as an object.

I encourage people to consider everything as a living, sentient being, whether it is a living, sentient being or not. Then you begin to know that for the living being, or the object, what it NEEDS to survive in it's current form.

In other words, take care of everything around you, the best you can.

Now, a person might be drawn to such a recent disaster, and not KNOW how to go about addressing the feelings they have about it. Not know who to talk to about it. Not even really knowing what it is they feel, or fear, or wonder about.

So we may look to something that is familiar. Anything. Something that we can say "Oh, well, phew, that's OK". Like in a motorcycle accident, the first thing I looked at was my fingernails. I swear to god. And my spouse of that time, he looked at my boobs. hahahahaha. Never mind the fact that there was blood coming out of the back of my head, and portions of my knee, hip, and back were left on the road. By golly, my boobs and nails were A-OK!

We have almost instantaneous news, and we also have Fit friends all over the world. So some of us might look to that "thing"...that thing we have in common, that thing being the Fit. That Fit in the first photo, looks like if it had passengers, they would have all been OK. And the second Fit didn't seem to be damaged.

It could be worse. I am especially influenced by the news and by movies. That is one of the reasons I no longer watch television. Haven't for several years. There are far too many disturbing things on TV that I cannot do anything about, but they hurt me anyway.
Everyone else goes back to doing whatever they were doing, after the news. I can't. I suffer and worry and stress and cry and wish...

How quickly would the world come to a screeching halt if everyone felt that strongly? Why, nothing would get done.

Each person may have certain things that wipe them out, mentally, emotionally, physically, and we have to respect those things. Likewise, the rest of the people that do NOT get totaled as a result of news or movies or events or disasters or tragedies, we have to equally respect them.

Like those doctors and firefighters. The police. The military.

Those folks may well go home, and sob and feel awful. But they have to do their rescue work, or save people, or do the job they were assigned to do.

A whole bunch of us, we don't really have people to talk with about disasters. About tragedies. Even if we have people to talk to, we still might not be comfortable talking about the deep down issues.

Sometimes we might just bring it up, and only "go there" if other people head in that direction.

I posted this:
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/othe...-recalled.html

I cried for awhile after watching the news cast and hearing the voices of the people...voices that will NEVER be heard again.

Pull the darn floor mat out of your cars, people. A FLOOR MAT is not worth a life. I don't want to DIE from a floor mat accident. I don't want YOU (any of you) to die from a floor mat accident.

A car load of people dying from a floor mat incident is a car load of people too many.

So, uh, yeah, now I'm all upset and teary eyed about damn floor mats. Death from floor mats.

And while I'm doing this:

Everyone else is often doing this:

But on other occasions, I've been the level-headed one, while others bounce about.

The poster here made a post about the Fit. And there was another post about a police chase after a Fit. We all focused on the car in the second one. And the poster here also focused on the car in the images shown in a news story. That should be OK.

No matter what disaster or tragedy it is, we can't fix them all. We can't. We can't suffer and feel for them all either, as we'd be suffering all the time.

Yes TW, that is basic psychology, and I totally agree with what you said.

The problem I have is that we can't just say this applies to every person as some just don't care. So we really have no clue if this is a grief reaction or if they really just focus on the Fit way too much.

ps...you have waaayyy too much time on your hands.

That whole area is going through some very hard times. Typhoon Ketsana, super typhoon Parma. The earthquake around Sumatra, Indonesia. And another FOUR earthquakes, plus a tsunami:
Were This Week's Pacific Earthquakes Connected?

Yes, I know I have a lot of time. I was thinking about taking up knitting cat hats.
