Whistling Mirror Problem

I have a 2008 European Jazz (older edition) and there is problem with a whistling sound that is driving me crazy. I am not sure where it is coming from but I strongly suspect it is the right drivers side mirror as the sound disappears when the mirror is in the in position and starts again in the out position and comes and goes at various speeds.

Has anybody else experienced this problem and is there a suggested fix? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Kind Regards
Chris

Solution Found

Well I am glad to say I found a solution in case anyone else experiences this problem. The problem was the gap between the rotating right mirror and the conical fixed base was causing the whistle. I removed the mirror and unscrewed the plastic base and put three 1 mm washers between the base and the mirror to increase the gap to stop the whistle.

Kind Regards

Chris

It started anywhere above 55 km/h (32 mph) On the motorway the general increase in wind noise tended to drown it out. I didn't hear it when the mirrors were folded in which gave me the clue it had something to do with them. It appears that the gap where the right mirror rotates on the base was just right to create the whistle. Increasing the gap with washers cured it. I suppose any problem with the aerodynamics could in theory cause a whistle. This one was pretty annoying which made me prefer to drive with the windows closed.

I am glad to say it seems tobe cured now.

Kind Regards

Chris
