The differnce if any would be the depth of the thread versus contact point of the filter gasket. Amsoil tends to be a little broad in their recomendations at times. For example my subaru outback calls for a fram 3593a amsoil for 2 years said it did not have a filter then the SDF 20 was listed as the filter. I tried one and it just was too shallow to get enough threads inside the filter for my liking. I decided to keep it on no leaks after the change etc. I checked the oil after about a week and it was almost a quart low. Turns out it was slowly leaking around the seal. My personel opinion is if Amsoil does not come out and say this is the fileter right away it tends to be a well this one will work kinda thing. Take that for what its worth just my experience working with them for many many years.

napa filters are nothing like wix filters... Look at the web site for wix. they explain there product well. In my opinion the wix filter may be over built... Wix is ready to answer all the tech questions... coeficients ect.
I dont know if wix builds filters for other companies. My high school budy ( he has retailed auto parts for 20 years and currently works in managment for a high volume store) usually fills me in on the cross deals.

The entire oil and filter thing raises some very instresting talk... Oh buy the way I use amsoil products for my mazda 13 b. I may likely use amsoil for the fit when it gets broken in with conventional oil

I double checked

and yes in fact Dana makes napa and wix both rated the worst of the bunch in consumer reports testing. If you want top of the line filtration i would stick with mobil 1 k&n or amsoil filters.

I'm wondering if anyone has solid documentation on the factory oil and break in period. I'd rather see it in writing, than take the word of anyone here (no offense) or any service rep.

If it is in fact better to run the original oil for ~5k miles, then so be it. I WOULD probably change the filter at least once in that process to pick up the metal particles, then top off the oil. Once broken in, I will probably buy a case of Amsoil.

BTW, what is the engine oil capacity of the Fit? (hopefully significantly less than the 5qt my current car uses, or the 9qt my Porsche needs!)

I would be more than happy to talk oil with u if u also dont have a life For the record i have had ever car i have ever owned atleast 10 years the FIT is now going someday to be the replacement for my 93 lx with 283000 miles on it still going strong. Food for thought
Been using synthetic since it first came out, back when Mobil 1 was the only one.
Back then my Honda dealer said it's use would void my warranty. Thank God the world is much more enlightened.
So Coop, other that being a dealer for Amsoil, in 60 words or less, better than Mobil 1?

Its slightly better than mobil one in most cases. It has a lower pour point by a few degrees higher viscosity index and does better in the wear scar and 3 ball wear test than an equivelent mobil 1 grade. That all being said i would not pay the difference on a retail level. Thats the only reason i first became a prefered customer then a dealer so i could get it at wholesale which is about the same price as mobil 1. Am i doing research now to see if the amsoil 5-30w might be a better choice as amsoil as of now only has 5w-20 in the xl series which is basically the equivelent of mobil 1. The pour point is a good indicator when you consider going with a slightly thicker oil. OK after looking at the specs im going with the 5w-30 amsoil vs the 5w20 because the prior has a lower pour point higher viscosity index and a lower 4 ball wear test number. My decision is made

While living in upper NY State, I relied on Mobil One to protect in the sub zero winters, especially at start up (How's Amsoil stack up in that catagory?)
Now I live in Florida, and the opposite is true, I still have start up wear ,but now because of the heat I need more all time protection. What do you recommend?. I use OW-30 Mobil One, in my Camry, Tundra and RAV 4
My Son still has my 1989 Nissan pick up in NY, other than normal maintence to the motor, nothing major for over 545,000 miles. (yes he still uses Mobil One)
Lastly, thanks for your oil knowledge so expertly communicated. You are a big help to many.
