Which Jazz? DSI or VTEC
Im having trouble deciding on the 1.3 DSI or the 1.5 VTEC Jazz.
On paper specs the 1.3 looks great on fuel and compression ratio but EVERYONE is persuaing me against it.
The car dealer was trying to tell me the air con wont work as well and it will struggle up hills.
If this were the case, why would Honda bother with the 1.3 DSI variety at all?
All feedback and explanations appreciated.

Are you guys saying if we hypothetically had a 1.3L VTEC it would out perform the 1.3L DSI?

VTEC is the older technology - been around with Honda for many years. The i-DSi was recently developed especially for the smaller engines in the Jazz/Fit, to give a good combination of power, torque and fuel economy. I believe the Jazz/Fit was the first car they put it in - and in the UK it is now in the new Civic.
In the UK we dont get any choice - other than engine size both are i-DSi. I find the 1.3 (or 1.4 as it is called in the UK) with CVT is fine for what I need it for - it keeps up well with town traffic and will maintain 80mph all day on motorways (freeways). It can handle all the hills we have in the UK - will maintain 80 on motorway gradient hills, and on others it will normally keep up with other traffic easily.
The air con also works fine - but then we don't have your heat to contend with so maybe that will make a difference.

If the VTEC is paired with geared transmission, then I would go with the i-DSI engine with CVT.
Here's a link that will tell you some details about the technologies behind the engines:

Go for the DSI
If you intend to drive mainly in heavy traffic or where the terrain is fairly flat then I suggest you go for the DSI Jazz. You'll appreciate not having to stop by the fuel pump to refill your fuel tank so frequently. I think the DSI is excellent for a second car or for running errands. The VTEC Jazz would be useful if you like to do frequent overtaking or need to frequently go uphill.
My 2 cents...
