Question MT supplier bankrupt?

Honda dealer today told me that MT was in short supply on the Civic and Fit due to bankrupcy re-organization of the supplier for the 5-speed gearbox on these cars. Can anyone confirm this?

We all saw the thread that 15% of Fits would be manual. I was told by my dealer that Honda pre-purchases it's transmissions 6 months in advance. I find this more realistic than the manufacturer being bankrupt.

For some strange reason, the great people that Honda hired to determine what the US and CDN market wanted in their Fits screwed up yet again. WAY more than 15% of Fit buyers are requesting manuals, and Honda can't do anything about it for 5-6 months.

It's hard to understand why the tall tale? Can't you just tell the customer about the low % of MT? Is the same shortage really occuring with the civic?

Honda has been on a big push the last few years with AT sport shift. The prelude, RSX and now the Fit. I just don't get it??? It is lost on me, kind of seems pointless. Is thier anyone out thier that can honestly say they like sport shift AT.

I didn't even know a "sport shift" was offered on the RSX!

I do not think it is hard to understand.

The salesman or woman wants to make a sale. They know there are more automatics than manuals so they need to sell automatics to some of the manual lovers.

It is a dirty move to sell the customer something they don't want.

Do you really believe that your dealer has that kind of information? Some sales guy
in the USA? Does he even know the name of the supplier?

Isn't Honda part of a kiretsu (a network of Japanese companies organized around a major bank)?

Would Honda be so stupid to source from
only one company... a financially weak one at that?

I would rather believe your dealer goes bankrupt before Honda's
MT supplier.

I did tell him that I thought that was a little silly--if a supplier like that was unstable I imagine Honda would sort it out or just take over the company.

Personally, I would go with the 5AT Fit because I've read quite a few stories about the 5MT not being as "slick" in terms of shifting as the 5MT units on the Civic.

must not feed the troll
I think that there a lot of MT fans here!

I'm cool with the AT as I think the paddle shifters will be Ferrari Style Fun. My daughter will be learning to drive on the Fit and I don't wanna replace the clutch twice while she is learning!
