Fantastic Residual Value
I agree that the Jazz has an unbelievable residual value in the UK.
I owned a 1.4SE in 2004 and paid £10,400
I traded it in against a new Toyota Yaris and got £9,800 part exchange!
I really missed the Jazz and have just bought a new 1.4 ES i-shift [semi-auto] which is even better than the 2004 model.
I was offered a year old model [old shape] and it was only £1,000 less than a new one [new model] - so the residals are still excellent in the UK

How come though?
I thought the value would drop after the new Jazz was released.
I bought my '06 Sport in 2007. It had 3000 miles on the clock, and I got it for just under £11k.
Now, 3 years later, I've only put it upto 18,000 miles. I think it's valued at £7-8k AT MOST right now, but for 3 years that's a fantasatic hold.

I think the "old model" with 8k on the clock I was offered had a very high price was due to the fact many people prefer the CVT gearbox & are willing to pay for it. .... There must be a good demand as they have sold it!

Stateside, they seem to hold their value well. I was looking for used fits, and people were asking just a few k less than new. The lowest priced used MT fit I could find in eastern corridor was almost 13k, for a 2007 with 17k miles and balance of factory warranty. At that price, it just makes sense to spend 2k more and get a new one. I just wish I got a little better deal than 16,300 for the sport MT, but these are in HIGH demand everywhere, and dealers usually aren't going to negotiate too much on high demand vehicles.
I think the value is less on 'your' side of the pond due to it being around longer, and your incredible market of small, highly efficient 4 door cars. We just don't have that sort of market here, although its the fastest growing segment. Fit/Jazz still a novelty here, as indicated by our ridiculous insurance premiums.
