Potential buyer question - 2010 or 2011 / Hybrid?
Potential buyer question - 2010 or 2011 / Hybrid?
Hi,
I am thinking about getting a Fit later this year. I believe I will either get a 2010 model with some end-of-year discount or I will get a 2011 model.
HOWEVER, I am hearing rumors about a Fit Hybrid. Here are some links I found:
2010 Honda Fit Hybrid | Honda Cars | Hybrid Car
Honda Fit Hybrid - Review | Hybrid Cars
Honda Confirms CR-Z And Fit Hybrids For 2010 - The Car Connection
Honda Confirms Fit Hybrid - and a New Prius-Fighting Hybrid
Does anyone know how credible this rumor is? Also, would YOU get a Fit hybrid since a regular Fit is pretty fuel-efficient as it is?
Thanks and hope to hear your opinions!

I have no idea how credible the rumors are. They have been floating around for some time.
I didn't go with the Honda Insight because I couldn't justify the additional cost for the hybrid, as well as the uncertainty over battery replacements and so on. For me, the same would have applied to a Fit Hybrid.
I went with the Fit after researching user experiences (Edmunds and many others). Depending on your driving habits, many people can get close to the Insight's EPA MPG with a Fit.
Who knows what a (hypothetical) Fit hybrid would cost, or what it's actual MPG rating will end up being.
If you are considering a hybrid on cost alone, most people will never make up the difference in vehicle price in fuel savings.
Good luck with your decision...

Outside the first link the others are way old (1 year +). I am somewhat in the same boat, waiting to see what 2011 Honda fit brings. Not so much interested in the hybrid but I am curious as to how Honda will react to the new offers of Ford (Fiesta) and Mazda (2).
Hoping the Fit sweetens the deal.

imo a hybrid fit will not work. they have an insight..why would they have a fit hybrid to compete within themselves? keep in mind, the insight uses the fit's platform (correct me if im wrong though).
lastly, if there is a fit hybrid, the price will be significantly higher and the fit's characteristics will be gone (great handling) due to the extra weight. Some reviews already said the GE is less "tossable" than the GDs...so imagine what more weight plus a battery will do to the fit's handling.
IF honda does make a fit hybrid..i do not think it will be on the current GE's platform. it will be next generation in like 3-4 years.
just my .02

just a thought... I've had two cars that were year 1 of a new design and both have had body related problems that were corrected in later model years (one was a civic with a wheel well rusting problem
that was later recalled and "patched" with sheet metal
).
It will not be a big concern for me in my next buying purchase, but, it still could be worth considering for some.
