I am trying to get a rack system for my honda fit. I beleive there are many of us out there like me that wish to have a rack system.
Neither Yakima or Thule officialy have a rack system for the U.S.A. modle fit. We can email them to let them know we are serious about wanting there products Hopefully emails will ecourege them to put us in front of the needs to do list.
email the company of your choice or both. Just think if you already own accesories this will be a way to recycle and or save more then a buck. Thank you for help and support.
mailto:support@yakima.com let them here us at yakima

yakima and thule rack systems aren't vehicle specific. The "clips" that go on the "towers" fit a wide range of cars. I know my clips (q69 and q70) work on eg/ek civic, integras, vw beetle and some others.

Thanks For Your Reply... I Would Like The Manufacture To Say They Approve How There Product Is Used. Obviously Liability And Safety Is A Big Issue. I Would Think The Above Mentioned Companies Would Get Out And Simply Test/inspect It And Say O.k. I Am Not Going To Take Resonsibility. The System Has Got To Hold A Load As Stated (probely 250 Pounds) Durring A Colision Or Hard Braking. Thanks Again For Your Input. I Envythe Person Who Has A Fit With A Rack System

I know yakama has a list to go by when fitting there products. yes the parts are not specific for one car rather fit many cars but the company directs and gives instructions.

I have the Thule racks on my US fit from the UK and they work great. However, the stated load capacity of them is 50 kilos including the 7 kilo rack. So you're looking at a maximum of 95 lbs on the roof. What are you going to carry that weighs 250 lbs?

well I just pulled that number. I have a yakama rack system for a suberu which reads max weight is 100 pounds. My error. I have never put anything near that kind of weight on the system... It seems I read some other numbers some place for that system.

To convert kilos to pounds multiply by 2.2 which is 110 pounds.

Sure, but Thule included the weight of the rack into that 50 kilos. So 50 kilos minus the 7 kilos that the rack weighs and you get approx. 95 Lbs. But that's what Thule puts in the manual. I doubt that it's really a hard limit.

Got a nice letter back:
"thank you for your inquiry about Yakima Products, Inc!

Our Yakima Fit Team is currently assessing a rack fit for the new Honda Fit. Generally, this means that we will have a fit for your vehicle sometime in the near future, but not always. Sometimes we find that there is no way to fit your vehicle; in this case, we will upgrade this note to a "No Fit" status. Otherwise, we will list what towers, clips, and bars will work for you. Please be patient, though, there are a lot of new vehicles out there on the road today for our hard working team to check out! I will log that you would like a rack for your car. That will help show that there is a demand for it.

Please check www.yakima.com → ‘Choose My Rack’ periodically to see if the fit information for your vehicle is available. Once we have a fit, the ‘Choose My Rack’ section will immediately reflect that information. "

How's that for a bump?

Here in the UK we can get Honda's own roof rack or Thule bars for our Jazz (Fit).

Honda's handbook states that the maximum roof load is 37kilos, which is about 80lbs. I guess that would be the same for the US Fit - after all the roof is exactly the same. So you can't put anything very heavy up there.

The UK racks fit the US Fit Just fine. I bought them here:

https://www.roofrackshop.com/vehicle...asp?vehID=2207

And had them shipped to the US for about 45 pounds. I only intened to two bikes up there and/or my snowboards.

you need the thule 1312 fit kit. That is not sold through Thule USA, but if you know someone who is a THULE dealer, they can probably get it. I am sure it will work with the north american "rapid" roof rack kits.

I have a yakima rack on my civic currently, so i am going to see what I can find out about getting that to "fit" on the "fit."

edit- I read on a few sites that the US fit kits are different than the rest of the world, so you can't just order the 1312 kit, you also need the 750 rapid feet also.

I found this site though - http://drknife.com/blog/index.php?itemid=47

Don't go out and buy Q-clips for a ford escort, but it will let you know what the fit looks like with a rack.
