How to strap on...

A canoe.. Has anyone actually strapped a canoe on the roof of their fit yet? I need advice... I DO NOT want to mess my paint up. Thanks

I've seen it with foam blocks, front and rear tow hooks and cinch through the rear windows. Nor sure I would do it without roof rack, however.
