Driving Impressions??

Hey guys! This is my first post in this forum. I'm in the market for a new car, and I'm seriously considering the Fit. I'm a little concerned about the 109 horses though...would I have problem accelerating onto highway speeds on a short on-ramp???

Also, do you think it's a good idea to get the factory option wheels? Or should I save my money and get a aftermarket set? THanks!!!

I've never felt the acceleration is a problem. The Fit is so light in weight. If you want to get a true idea of the car's performance, I suggest you take the different cars you are looking to purchase and calculate hp/lbs.

I don't know about wheels; someone else?

I had no problem pulling off to the side of a highway. Then pulling back on from park to 60 without any problem with my MT Fit.

Thanks! Sounds good! I've been reading a lot of reviews and each of them have various opinions about the power of the Fit, but I want to get some feedback from people who drives the Fit day to day and not just for a few hours on a test track for the sake of a review. I'll keep checking on the wheels question.

yea, I guess that would be expected from a dealer option...I'm also thinking that I would want a set of 16's instead of 15's offered by Honda. Think 16's will rub the wheel well?

regards to power:

lots of wheel/tire info in the 'shoe dept.':

general consensus is that the factory 16" rims are nice but that you can find lighter or cheaper wheels elsewhere. $160 per wheel isn't that bad though.

Wow! Thanks a lot for the video! That's exactly the kind of description I was looking for. I think the video pretty much sealed my decision to get a Fit later on this year (unless I happen to get a few G's richer, which is highly unlikely ). I'm going to go with a manual Fit Sport, but haven't really decided on the color yet? It's probably going to be either white or blue. Thanks again!

It's all in the way you drive it. This thing has plenty power for merging onto any hwy.

O really?!? That sucks! I wonder if the Honda dealers in California (or the Bay Area for that matter) would do special orders to get customers Fits spec'ed to what they want...

one of 5 fits will be manual.

honda dont do ordering, honda makes x amount of the vehicle, and allocate them to various dealerships. fit manual in a specific color can potentially take a very long time to show up at the dealership.

fit sport manual in blue or white for the entire bay area, zero in stock, 2 on order schedule to show up in the 2-4 weeks.

2006 honda civic: 140hp, 2685lbs = 19.18hp/lb
2007 honda fit: 109hp, 2432lbs = 22.3hp/lb
1989 honda civic: 95hp, 2147lbs = 22.6hp/lb

ok... i know for an absolute fact my 1989 honda civic doesn't accelerate better than the 2006 honda civic and the 2007 honda fit. having driven and compared all three.

the only way to know if acceleration is a problem is to test drive it. punching numbers into a calculator won't tell you a thing. sorry, but that's just the way it is.

the 2006 honda civic accelerates far better than the 2007 honda fit in all situations. try loading up your fit with 4 people, and the 2006 civic with 4 people. the 2006 civic will accelerate much better.

Oh man, I didn't know a blue/ white Fit with manual were that rare!! I took a look at a blue one in a dealership in Davis, but that one was an auto. Maybe I'll go to the place I bought my last Honda at and ask them to keep a look out for me.

Thanks! If I ever go test driving a Fit, I'll be sure to bring two of my friends along and throw them in the back so I can see how the car runs with a full load.

I think you have the formula reversed: 22.3 lb/hp is what we get

- very different !

Don't be concerned at all. This car is great on the highway. I cruise at 75-85 with no problem. Plenty of power, pass most cars on the road. It's not a drag racer, but great on the highways and curves.
