Question Need buying advice plz

ok so I am looking at a 08 honda fit normal auto, it has 40k on it but its 9k.

But I have been reading that in 09 they did alot of changes like switched from vtec to i vtec and made the engine overall run cooler more effeinct etc. Is this true anyone who may know. I don't want to buy a car if the new model is that changed. I read the sticky but I am wondering mechanically how much of a change to that engine there was going i vtec etc.

While there are some changes to the engine and its efficiency... it's not that significant.

The GE8 ('09-'10 and upcoming '11) are better engines, but the car weighs more, so the actual overall efficiency dropped (slightly).

What is it you are looking for? I can't see that you're a performance driver (racer/ricer), 'cause I would think then you'd already know what you're looking at. Let's put it this way, if you don't already know the difference between VTEC and iVTEC, you probably don't need to care about it (in this case). I'm not claiming I know, 'cause I don't care about the difference all that much (I bought the newer Fit because of other factors).

If you're looking for a "green" car... they're pretty much the same overall.

If you're looking for comfort/cargo capacity, the newer one probably wins that one.

Cool Don't have...

Experience with the GD model, but reading the boards, the GD model seems quicker and handles better than the GE model.

The GE model ('09-10) is even better than the original as far as putting people and stuff into the car, other than the front seat not folding as flat.

Overall it would be nitpicking to pick one over the other in a used car based on the overall car design.

Newer is generally better in a used car, but also at a price.

if you're manual driver then the GD is definitely a better choice, imho but as a car, the GE has so much more to offer.

hmm

what do u mean by so much more to offer on the ge I thought it was just some minor changes.

Thats why I am wondering if the i-vtec makes that much of a change compared to vtec in the gd.

Its a good price I think for a 08 with 40k on it for 9,000.

I hear they are very realible.

The GE has a better overall interior layout and it's a bit wider. The GD has a lot more options for modifications though...other than that I think they're pretty much even.

hey Sniper7,

I own exactly the car you are thinking of buying. For 9K, it would be an outstanding purchase.

I keep a spreadsheet of mileage, and in 2.5 yrs since we bought it, it has averaged 41.6 mpg. This is hand calculated....since no computer that yr.

We have a roof rack on it, and carry 1-3 kayaks down to the Rio Grande every May - July....almost every weekend. It handles this very well, and we drive on some rough roads on those weekends.

This car has stood up to everything we ask of it, and it holds vast amounts of stuff with the seats folded in a variety of ways. we are slightly under 20K in mileage, as we have a short commute of 7 mi to work.

I say test drive the car.....if you like it, buy it.

ok

ok cool thanx I will probley get the gd then cause its a good price, I like the interior of the ge more but not for 3-5 grand more.

Thanx above for the help, yea I test drove it and its amazing, way better than a accent or anything else in class.

Yea my mom's friend owns a hyundai dealer and they got one in on trade and will give it to me for a really good price thats why I might jump on it and the guy that traded it in was a friend of the family, it has all records and its all highway cause he drove about 100 miles a day to and from work. Also its black and I like black cars. The guy traded it in for a sonata lol. People love those new sonatas
