Fuel Light Indicator Question

I've heard several posts here where people drive their Fit until the fuel light indicator comes on. I always thought it was bad to let the gas get that low. I know you have a certain amount of fuel left when the light comes on, but can doing this cause damage long term?

It can potentially damage the fuel injectors if you run out of fuel. According to the manual (I'm doing this from memory...) you have approximately 1.7 gallons left when the fuel light comes on.

Given the mileage of the Fit, you can go about another 50 miles, once the low fuel indicator light goes on. That's usually plenty of time to find a station, before you run out.

Side note: That indicator light does not take into account the amount of fuel that can be stored in the fuel filler neck upon fill-up. Given the fact that the Fit's tank is under the front seats, but the filler door is at the rear of the vehicle, there's quite a bit of gas available between the two... buying you a little more distance before you're choking out on fumes.

No that is wrong. If you fill the neck up with fuel, it will just take longer for the indicator lamp to turn on. Or if you fill the tank only half way, it will turn on sooner, etc.
