On my Civic with the remote start engaged, I have to park in neutral if I want to remote start it when I get back to my car. I will park in neutral only if on a flat surface. Otherwise its always in first gear when parked. E-brake always engaged when parked, no matter what.

If I'm facing down hill, I turn my wheels so it's hitting the kerb and put it in reverse gear with handbrake on.

If I'm facing up hill, I turn my wheels the other way so back of the wheels hit the kerb and put it in first gear and handbrake on.

Level surface just usually hand brake.

My current car is manual.. I usually just push it forward into 3rd after I shut off the engine. I'll probably do the same when I get the Fit.

$5600 later I learned to always put it in gear with the ebrake on. I failed to pull my ebrake up all of the way one time and left it in neutral and my car went down a slight hill and smacked a large metal gate. The worst part is, I got to watch it happen. (thank goodness for insurance!)
btw, that was my current car, I have not recieved my Fit yet

i have heard any gears will be fine, uphills or downhills. but i just make sure everytime the handbrake is fully up and leave it in neutral because i always turn my wheels to the right direction
