A little slow...
What the Fit has going for it around town is Torque. About the same as the 92-95 Civic Si (106lb.ft.). That car was, however, about #500 lighter--interestingly, about the weight of the Spoon Fit. It is not a fast car but it is 'quick' and great at squirting through traffic and through corners. It is easy to nail the apex in this car! It is a fun car and would be a great car to start in Autocross. Just don't expect to dominate the class!
the first time i test drove one it did seem a bit sluggish compared to my accord, but now that i'm used to it, i can shoot out at a traffic light (not too fast, don't worry, dacalac
) at the perfect speed for me. having a M/T does make it seem faster, though. plus, it corners sooo much better than my accord!

for a $15000ish car, the fit is not slow at all. especially comparing to xB, xA, etc.
how fast is fast? straight line or cornering?
only you can define how fast it is. the data says, it is a 9 second car in 0-60. is it slow? hell yeah!
however, if anyone who wants to go like under 5 in 0-60, he/she shouldn't even consider fit.
u get fit for some other purposes and enjoyments, except going REAL FAST, right?

Lets not go overboard on the handling - it handles so-so, but definitely has body lean. The breaking point is also hard to judge. I just came from a 95' 240sx, and its not even in the same stratosphere as that car when it comes to handling.
As for speed, its fast enough - but just consign yourself to living in the 4-6K rpm range on a more regular basis than you might in a more powerful car. For routine driving, i rarely took my 240sx above 4K rpms, simply because i didnt need to. With the Fit, you're going to need to here and there. Dont worry though, its designed to work in the white band, so maybe it makes more sense to buy a car with a smaller engine so you can use all of it on a routine basis.

it's fast enough to get from point a to point b in a reasonable about of time.
it's not going to beat crown vic taxi cab merging into the same lane as you.
in the overall sense, it is slow, but it's good enough for daily driving, just not daily racing. the fit is good for what it is, fuel economy, room, comfort, etc. performance is not what the fit is for.
as far as auto x goes, it will be decent in the slowest class, h-stock. competitive in the grand scheme of things? no, thats why it's in h-stock and not a-stock.

Of course, ya gotta be rich to feed that hog.

not necessarily
I've had my Fit Sport AT for three weeks, and just passed the break-in period (no hard acceleration for the first 500 miles).
The car is very peppy from a standing start, and with the paddle shifts accelerates well til 45 mph. It's probably at that point that the engine size overcomes any gearing Honda has done. My wife complains about the highway ramp acceleration (she drove a Volvo turbo), but if I rev to 5000 rpm in 2nd I have no problems. But the car has very little top end acceleration. You will need to use the gears more than you may be accustomed. (my other car is a Jag, which starts slowly but is a monster from 40-95 mph., so I had to adjust). thus, it may depend on your driving habits (old lady v. racer wannabe) and location (urban v. rural) on how much you like the engine.

ive come to face facts that the fit may look good but it is slow. so i have do decide if good looks are worth the 109hp.
ive also been looking at a couple '02 ep3 (civic si) which are rated 160hp to the crank. so we'll see what happens...

Congrats! What year and what color? I would've taken home the EP3 if the choice was mine. Don't be wary about the people who bag on the car. It's a great car. After buying my current car, the Ep3 has been on my "cars to own" list. Anywho, I'm babbling.
