But it depends. Is someone going to waste a bunch of time on a Civic? Usually not, unless it's really that nice or is a better model (i.e. Si). But if it's a nicer car, sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze.

In an MT, if you're good enough, you can still drive without using the clutch. The gear will slide right in/out, when the RPM matches.

I was tugging on my shifter the other day (bad habit)... and it slide right out of gear, smooth as butter. And I wasn't even pressing on the clutch.

You're better off locking the gas pedal. Meaning, IF a thief tried to steal an MT car, they'd have to rely solely on idle speed to get anywhere. Add a blaring alarm... and they'd dump it after a few feet, a block at most.

You can shift without using the clutch... but you can't start it (unless you messed with your car and set it up to the point where the clutch doesn't need to be depressed to start).

if you have room, you can roll start an MT. one of the benefits of an MT over AT when it comes to busted starters. it is pretty hard to roll start an MT without a clutch, but doable (if barely).

edit: then again, to bypass is locked clutch, the mod seems a little to simple to do... from what I can gather on google, all it is, is connecting two wires at the top of the clutch pedal. so... thief looks under the dash, yanks wires, twist them together, viola, clutch is "pressed" for the starter.

you can use your club with confidence as soon as they stop making hacksaws. it's a 30 second issue. if you are that worried your car will get jacked, get theft insurance. removable wheels, alpha locks, wheel locks, it doesn't matter. even physically blocking in a car doesn't fo much.

my friend parked an odyssey behind his hatch. they jacked the odyssey, put it in the street and towed the car, out of his driveway. sadly the best defense against getting jacked is a garage; out of sight out of mind. sadly that isn't even thief proof.

I've given up the fight against the thieves; if they want it, let them take it. that's why I got the fit in the first place, but I digress.

haha... yup yup.

My brother showed it to me when the starter on the Escort failed... He's like... let it roll a little and then let go of the clutch... I'm like WHAT?!?

Then he made me push (but he's stronger than I am!!!)... and it started up!
