Does anyone use "The Club" anymore??

Does using "the Club" (anti theft bar for steering wheel) do any good with the 2010 Fits?

I live in a rough area and I have always used a Club on my car. But now that I have a new Fit I see that because the windshield is so far away I don't think it really has any effect. I don't see any other cars of this style (large sloping windshield) using the club.

Could someone who knows these things please give me some advice?

Thanks I appreciate it.

Very sorry that I have no help for you as I have never owned a club and don't own a Fit either. But on a side note while I was in Lancaster last week I saw a very nice restored 60's VW bug with a club. Kinda made me chuckle a bit, but if he trusts that car with one, and I can't knock it til I try one either just to be fair.

Nothing to chuckle about if you live in notable cities in NY. Common sense should dictate when and where to use those things. If used properly (how you position the club so it can be seen from a distance) it's a good theft deterrent in addition to a visible alarm LED.

In my old car the club wold hit the windshield if you tried to steer. In the Fit it is no where the windshield and you could steer it so is it doing anything?

I've heard that the modern chipped keys make cars so much more difficult to start by hotwiring that either carjacking or towing have become the norm. Neither situation would be well defended by the club, unless you use it to whack someone between the running lights.

^^ hence I used the term "theft deterrent". I know someone would throw the "if they want to steal it they can... no matter what"

My point was that cars are so hard to steal without towing these days that it's unlikely to be any more a deterrent than the chipped key. And a club won't deter them from busting a window an stealing your stereo and/or cargo.

i use one in my 1992 VW Jetta, since it's really easy to steal those cars... and my band has used one in the van when hauling equipment to shows, even though that van has an alarm. haven't used one in my fit though

it's too easy to cut through the soft steering wheel to remove the club. for a much more effective way to slowdown theft, use a pedal lock. they're much more effective but unfortunately aren't going to be much of a visual deterrent since they're on the floor.

Had mine since 3 cars ago and kept transferring over to each new vehicle I owned. I believe in a layers approach so the club, alarm, and chipped key will deter most 'cept the one that tow your car. As someone stated it can come in handy to beat the sh!t out of someone.

if you live in a rough area you wont need it. theive#1 will first steal your wheels and tires. potential thieve#2 wont be able to drive your car or tow it.

if it makes you feel better, use the club. those things can be breached with a hacksaw in less than a min per some domcumentary i saw may years back.

We had a club in our truck back in 2002 in Phoenix, and we were going into the library for a few minutes....did not put it on. Stupid.

In 5 minutes our 40 K truck was gone...clean as a whistle. The police told us that 2 minutes is the magic time for thieves...if they cannot steal in 2 min., then they will move on.

I still use the club on both vehicles...it is a good visual deterrent and would still be a nuisance to an average thief.

Funny you should ask this because I had completely forgot about the club untill I saw it on a car at one of the stores I work at the other day. The funny thing is it was in a neighborhood that I would leave my car unlocked in.

When my car is all done I will have one step better then "the club" I will be able to remove my steering wheel

Yes, The Club, as has already been stated is a pretty primative basic piece of "Theft Deterent" hardware. I've seen the docmunetaries where it is defeated in seconds. It's all up to the individual. I think that you are right, on a modern vehicle with a chipped key and a good alarm system, I think you are wasting your time using a club. On an older vehicle? A truck or a Jeep? Anything that might potentially slow a thief down might help.

I used "The Club" on a 90's, unalarmed Truck I used to own. Always knowing that if a Thief really wanted it, it wasn't going to stop him/her. On The Fit? With the alarm system and the Key? I wouldn't even consider it. There are far better tools and technology possible.

I've used it on autos without any means of anti theft protection (eg. alarms or engine cut off). I also second it as a weapon for self defence.

I bought the Unbreakable AutoLock (the one that hooks up to your brake pedal in an automatic or clutch pedal in a manual) 11 or 12 years ago, and I still use it to this day. I remember my parents were saying that it was pointless since I had an alarm... up until my brother's Civic got stolen with the same alarm.

yup. that autolock is quite solid. it's made of high strength metal and so are your pedals. a lot harder to defeat than the soft steering wheel that a club is attached to.

I remember after my brother's car got stolen (though they recovered it in Long Beach), he ended up getting both the autolock AND the club, haha.

My dad uses the "club" on his civic and it hasn't been stolen. It does deter would be thieves that carry just screwdrivers. They aren't trying to waste time hacking and sawing.
