Did I get a good deal??
Did I get a good deal??
Hey Guys,
Relatively new to the forums, but have been a Honda Fit admirer for a long time. I am have been in the market for a Fit for about 3 months and finally got one today!!
I have signed the Bill of Sale, and will have transfer of ownership on Saturday.
I got a 2010 Honda Fit Sport in Red
Sale Price: $16,700 CAD (asking price: $17,500)
Odometer: 4,568 KM
Free Oil Change
Paint/Touch up pen
Discounts on accessories (ie Tint)
4/5 years remaining on 100KM Powertrain warranty
5 years Honda Roadside Assistance
The guy I bought it from worked at a Honda dealership in my city, and said he was selling for his grandparents. We met at the dealership and did the paperwork there and all that stuff. I contacted the guy through kijiji, so it was a private sale (no gst!!) but the car was stored at the dealership. The car apparently belonged to his grandparents who live outside the city, so the car was stored there for convenience.
The car was pretty clean and definitely felt like it was pretty new. The only problem I noticed was that there were a few scratches and a couple of paint chips. He said he will throw in a free paint pen, and also give me his discount for accessories; there are no floor mats currently. He will also do a free oil change at the dealership before the sale. One of the things that really appealed to me was the warranty and roadside assistance still included.
As a term of the sale I can still get an inspection done. However since there are less than 5K on the odometer do you think this is necessary?
I test drove a 2011 Honda Fit Sport, and the final cash price the guy quoted me at another dealership was $23,551.76 (after all taxes, levys, fees). He said this car could be sold for $18-20K if it was a dealership car, so it makes me think I got a good deal. Do you think it was a good deal?

5,000km doesn't mean it wasn't involved in an accident. Have someone else give it a once-over just for peace of mind.
Sounds like a great deal. Is there an equivalent of KBB or Edmunds that provides market prices for used cars in Canada?

beside the normal test drive and checks people do, for used cars take a friend and measure the distance from the front center cap to the rear center cap on both sides of the and compare. difference should be under a mm.
check under the car as well, check under the hood. check for any paint jobs, etc. there are always tattle tail marks on repaired cars.
if it all checks out, i think you got a great deal.

Would you guys get a third party inspection if you were me? I had 2 different people come with me on seperate occassions to look at the vehicle. I'm not the most automotively savvy. But since the mileage is low and there is factory warranty I figure its not worth the money. Am I being too naive?

Besides, it may end up being a drop in the bucket compared to what you end up spending in mods.
