Farewell to the Fit
Farewell to the Fit
Well it's been a great 4 years with the fit. But I'm ready to trade up to bigger and better things. I just ordered my 2012 Rallye Red Civic Si Coupe a couple days ago at the dealer. Crappy part: The car is going to take 2-3 months to get here... but it's worth the wait! I really appreciate everyone who has helped me with questions and DIY info. I've never seen a forum with as many helpful ppl and I hope to get the same treatment on 9thgencivic.com
If anyone of you happen to be a member of said site above, my username is "Rallyeeeee! Chris"
Stay tuned for a part out as I will be replacing stock parts on my car before the trade in.
Peace,
~Chris

I am actually the opposite! I sold my si and got an auto fit. Although I missed the power, I am happy to save so much money on gas. The Si was a gas killer and premium was required. I am so glad to get rid of my Si and just get something more practical and the Fit has much more room and more mature to drive.
Anyways, good luck of your choice!

Hope you don't intend on modding it...or having much fun.
That car's not a real Si. its an EX-Sport.
And the 9th gen Civic isn't even a recommended pick by Consumer Reports...its dropped off a ton since the 8th gen

Congrats on your purchase. You're the only person you have to please so if you're happy about it, that's all that matters.
P.S. Consumer reports said they don't like it due to choppy ride, road noise, and cheap plastics...kind of like the fit. I'm sure it'll be plenty reliable and fun to drive.

Out of curiosity, what makes this new SI "a weak excuse for an Si"?
Is it that lack of 8000 rpms? Is it a 2.4? Is it the general look?
I just don't get the hate of the 2012 SI...

Low revving, look, too quiet, not as sporty as past models, not very good for modding (it has the exhaust manifold integrated with the head like the GE)
Congrats!
I think people don't accept it because it has a passable amount of torque. The overall execution is a bit like the tC, (compact car with a midsizer's 4-banger) though a bit more refined for a corresponding larger price.
The gas shouldn't be that much different. If you're going to sweat gassing up a 2.4 liter compact car, you're too damn broke to buy a new car anyway. My tC gets about 1-2 mpg less than the Fit did in real world city driving anyway.
Also, don't forget that the Fit is significantly cheaper than an SI. You may find folks who would like to buy one, but their budgets/credit won't allow it. They'll expend a LOT of energy convincing themselves that they don't like the Si anyway, that the Fit is faster through the corners/in the right hands/is better/etc. Ignore it, enjoy the new ride!

2500 lbs > 3000 lbs.
I for one would prefer ~40 more torque than the loss of 900 rpms but that is my personal preference.
I'm pretty sure that the car will be modded to death regardless of the head design.
I was telling my wife how much I liked the SI coupe last night.. My kid was heart broken when I told him there was no way we could swing paying for insurance on an SI in 1991 when he graduated from school... I was really wanting to get one in 2006 but read a short blurb of an article about the Fit and had to have one.. After owning VW Rabbits in the 1980s the idea of a Japanese hatchback with a 1500cc engine was something I couldn't pass up. I think I would have a hard time getting and out of a SI and it is so cool to have a little car I can carry large items in... Regardless, the SI coupe with boost would be a scream to drive.
i'm pretty sure companies just choose not to develop any parts for the ge8 fit because there's no money in it. the owners on fitfreak are a small niche market with little value in terms of a business investment. 99.8% of ge8 owners will buy the car for it's utility, economy, and safety features. the last 0.2% will buy it with every intention to mod.
i think the new SI debate is the same as the ap1 vs ap2 -- some people will welcome the extra torque and others will gripe about honda losing it's soul... oddly enough they're usually the same people who say honda should put the boosted k24 from the rdx in the new SI to keep it competitive

congrats to the OP, rallye red > millano pink
I think Honda should've made a K16. Rev to 9k, 160 bhp, 0 lb/ft torque. Perfect for Fit Si.
Civic is too big for my tastes now anyway. Civic = 90's Accord
and as for the Bisi CR-Z....I'm going to bet that car is terrible on the street and is a dyno queen.
