New Fit and decisions to make!
New Fit and decisions to make!
Hello all!
I am currently courting a new ride, and found the Honda Fit to be exactly what I want for the price. I only have a few decisions to make before I put in my order. (No Fits in Austin at all at the moment. They all come in preordered which makes me a sad girl)
Decision one: Stick or Auto. I am fond of the stick shift, however, I am in terrible Austin traffic for 40 miles per day. I know it doesnt compare to some cities, but we have very few highways that take me to where I need to go, so I have to take the most stupidly busy one. That being said, the newer clutch seems so much better than my last stick from years ago. So.... what do I do.
Decision two: Color. I know its completely preference, but which do you think is easier to see in traffic; which is more "sporty" looking, and which has more resale value.
Whatcha all think?
Thanks in advance!

-silver color to reflect the Texas heat & sun
-get the Texas legal tint for the same purpose
-get a front windshield sun screen from the dealer
Regarding Auto vs Manual... that is a personal decision. To bad
there are none around for you to try out and come to a better
conclusion.

How about doing a test ride with both auto & stick in your area? Can you go to another town/dealer to test ride? Stick may be just fine.
As for most visible color = White. Reflects heat--Fit looks awesome in the Taffeta White.
To me silver blends in with road too much and can't see it well in fog. The orange is pretty visible, too. Besides it is close to Halloween
Although, I'd think resale value may be lower- looks sporty, though.
Milano Red is visible & sporty, might get hot in summer.

hummmm.... regarding MT or AT... i'd say MT even if you do have congestion. ive always found MT is EASIER to handle in traffic vs AT especially if you dont have steep hills to climb along the way. (and i believe austin is pretty flat). on AT cars you creep forward unless you have your foot on the brake. ofcourse you can shift into neutral while coasting but if traffic starts rolling again you shift into drive and you get a THUNK!... can't be good for the tranny. also even on the same car, MT and AT is a HUGE difference in fun factor.for color the funny is RED seems to be one of the worst colors to detect when unexpected... especially in shaded areas on a sunny day. yellow/orange colors seem to do best followed by white/silver ..then the darker colors like blue/black.
there was a sort of "myth" that red cars get more police "attention."
I have silver, but even I think it blends into the background a little too much sometimes (especially when its overcast). don't know about resale value (don't intend to sell it).
As for MT vs AT... I do deliveries and average about 40+ miles a night with lots of stops and the occasion idiot traffic (traffic due to idiotic driving). While my shifting needs a lot of practice, I wouldn't trade my MT for an AT.

If you LIKE driving stick, get one. If you're just doing it because you HAVE to, get the Sport with paddle shifters. I have a MT and drive in Los Angeles daily, just learn to put it in 2nd and idle along/leave space and not rage if someone cuts in your buffer space.
White and Silver will look the best the longest I think. The Fits have terribly thin clearcoat and if I would have known this when I bought one I would have gotten white. I would avoid Red, the few i've seen look pink already and they could have only been a couple years old at most.

Wouldn't white look worse with all those chips? I think silver storm metallic is best (although I love BSP), wont show as bad chips, doesn't show dust like darker colors, and keeps cool in the summer (just make sure to get the windows tinted and use a sun shade).
Decisions, decisions... You decide.
Don't like cleaning? Light color
Don't like heat? Light color
Louisiana Heat? Light color with tints and working A/C helps...
Sportier? Wrong car
AT/MT? What's your priority?
Resale value? Fit (period) just take care of it!

I wouldnt consider getting this car in anything but a manual….
no question you should get a manual.. Honda is known for having some of the best manual transmissions shifters in the world.. even in traffic i found driving stick gives you something to do
as far as color i would get a taffeta white no question if i was ordering
i went with black because it was the only sport MT available at the time..
I would have even preferred the storm silver metallic aka gray
So I would say get a Sport, get a MT and get white or grey
but thats just me

isnt it annoying when u ask a question and ppl say "it's totally up to u or that's ur personal decision?"
anyway, i live in los angeles (well known for its traffic)
im loving my stick shift fit.
stick all the way.
as for "sporty" looking, blue or red and even black looks damn cool

The glowing reviews for the manual transmission, if your daily commute to work is in stop and go traffic, I would much prefer the automatic.
As for car color and resale value, you can check out this article...
Which Car Color Offers Better Resale Value?
But I think you are better off just picking the color you like best...the difference in resale value is not significant unless you churn your cars every couple of years...

I'd go with my car's packaging, but the new silver is nice. Get the manual. It's that much better, but unfortunately the clutch is a funky. You get used to it. I'd say resale is best on the gray and silver.
If you need a test drive, let me know. I'm in town.

I used to have a MT and decided after a few years that I have many others things I can do with my hands other than shift, shift, shift! But, they are fun.

I like all the colors. Gray cars are EVERYWHERE, and I prefer NOT to fit in.
"They" say that you should choose a color that can be seen easily in fog, like red or blue versus white or gray. BUT really, who listens to that stuff? How often do you find yourself in heavy fog? I lived in the SF Bay area and even there I don't think anyone had an accident in the fog because they had a gray car.

Red is sporty
Black is classy
White is classic and clean
Vortex Blue Pearl is manly (IMHO)

I don't think JenniferF gives hootie patootie what anyone here has said. She posted the OP a week ago and never came back or replied.
So true! I wonder how many people come here to post one question-get the rest of the members to respond with long explanations and then disappear, never to be heard from again?
