Fit Hybrid, any news???
So I know they already have it in other countries, but has Honda given any new info on when/if they are going to bring a Fit Hybrid to the states?
Everything I find online is from like 2009, 2010. So just didnt know if there was any updates out there.
Thanks!

The Fit EV will be available for lease in select California and Oregon markets next summer and is expected to expand to six East Coast markets in early 2013. The Fit EV’s Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price[3] (MSRP) is $36,625. A monthly lease payment is estimated around $399.

Well i guess that sort of clears up some of it for me. I really want a fit, but I am a little disappointed in the things I am reading about the gas mileage, which is one my big requirements in a new car. I really want a prius but can't afford. So I thought if maybe Fit Hybrid would be "affordable" and released early 2013 or so I could just save my pennies until then. But at $30+ that'd be a no go for this guy!

yeah but it has CRAZY mpg compared to the prius...

From what I'm reading, and correct me if I'm wrong please, I was hoping with a fit, if driven right would get in the neighborhood of 32-35ish mpg, but it looks like the best I can hope for is about 27-30ish. Is that accurate to say? Without a ton of mods of course.
I drive a Ford Explorer now that gets about 20. The explorer is paid for so the extra I would spend per month on a new car only getting about 9 more MPG is a tough sale for me.
But thats why I'm here. I'm hoping to learn more than I don't already know!

That encouraging. I don't plan on doing any sort of mods to it. Not my thing really. I just want a good car to get me to and from work as efficiently as possible with a little style and grace. I also play music so I need a little room to haul some music equipment.

The Fit EV is NOT a hybrid. It's a 100% electric car, no gas at all. So you're comparing apples and oranges really. I think hybrids are pretty overrated anyway... Batteries are pretty hazardous to the environment as it is. Comparing the cost, there's a huge time to recover the price difference unless you're driving like 40,000 miles a year

i get 33-35~ if iam driving without paying attention to the meter.
when i drive to FL, a 10 hour trip, i generally get aruond 37~ highway.
If iam doing a long trip and iam driving behind a 18 wheeler or something for the bulk of the time.. i get like 49~MPG
really conservative driving.. i can get 40~
i think a good average on this forum is probly 35~ getting 40-50MPG is possible on this car... but nobody likes to drive slow.... and behind huge trucks.

Performance and mpg would fall short of the Prius most likely.
Frankly sales will kill the insight if it was available.
2012 Honda Fit Hybrid First Drive
The hybrid fit gets the Insight's 1.3-liter gasoline four-cylinder that develops 88 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 88 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm.
The all electric Fit plug in will just be leased for two years then no word on it it will ever be sold. likely not, just getting experience with a plug in car.

Probably could recover the costs over a Fit by a 3 year period now in gas savings. Of course that doesn't change the fact that environmentally, hybrids are sort of a myth... but from a cost of ownership perspective, there seems to be a lot going for the Prius c. The maintenance has less fluid changes, none of the accessories are belt driven, etc.
On that basis, I can see why Honda wouldn't bother with a Fit hybrid... IMA just isn't efficient enough to compete.

i prefer gas over pure electric or a half gas half electric, pure electric when you don't have a house is useless and to be honest once the batterys go then your better off buying a new car it would be cheaper, one day they'll have a cleaner fuel that requires almost no fossil fuels
just my opinion
