Should I do it?
Here is the situation:
When I found out about the Honda FIT, I fell in love with it. I have been looking for a new car for a while now, and the FIT was a perfect FIT for me...haha
Well everyone on here knows how hard they are to get, so I could not find any dealer in the local area with one in stock, but found one dealer who was getting a AT Black Sport in to use as a test driver. I went to the dealer the day they got it and I test drove it and fell in love with it even more.
So I placed a deposit on a BLACK MT Sport with WHITE and SILVER as my second choices. So almost 5 weeks later, it still has not come in yet.
I got a call from my dealer saying that they are getting a BLUE AT Sport in this week and its mine if I want it....
NOW.....should I go with the BLUE AT Sport, or should I hope and wait for my top three choices in color (black, white, silver) and for a stickshift??
I REALLY REALLY need a car because mine is falling apart but I don't know if I should wait a little longer (most dealers said I might have to wait till October) or should I just settle for the blue automatic??
decisions decisions.....

If you'll be happy with an automatic, and like the blue, then I'd say get it.
However, if you're a die-hard stick driver, you're in for a VERY long wait. There's a bunch of other posts on these boards, regarding the (lack of) availability of the manual transmission.
If you're "okay" with an automatic, and it's really just the color, then you'll have to do some soul-searching, to determine whether or not you're going to regret it, every time you see your car in the parking lot.

Do any dealerships know if they're getting an allocation of black, white or silver? Silver is the most common color, so I'd think your chances would be highest with that color. We had to wait two months and a day from putting our name on a car on their "incoming" list to driving off the lot. It takes a while but it's worth it.
If you are okay with an AT that would increase your odds, too
Silver was my first choice, then blue and then red. They originally ordered me a silver, and it came in before anyone else could get one of those colors at MSRP.
Make sure it's really what you want... the only problemt getting a MT is the rarity right now. It depends on how desperate you are. Good luck!

Blue is a great looking Fit. I was my first choice but they couldn't give me a firm date and there was a silver available. I took it. A/T vs. MT. tough one. If it has the paddle shifter go for it, no question. If just plain A/T think hard. Fit MT and paddle are a blast to drive, for me A/t was less fun.
I love silver/grey, but the more I see of the blue, the more I like it. I would take the blue were it available to me, but I wouldn't take the AT over the MT. That's easy for me to say, though. I am sitting in Bangkok, and won't need a car until I come back.
It's a tough decision, and unfortunately you are the only one who can make it. Good luck.

For me personally, I would wait for the car exactly the way I want it. Don't settle for anything else. You will derive more satisfaction from getting the car exactly the way you want it. You don't want to regret making a quick decision. I regretted some previous car purchases because I didn't want to wait and had to lose out on some things. When it came time for me to get my E55 I told myself that I would not settle for anything less than the car spec'd the way I wanted it. That meant having to wait maybe a year since navigation was not offered the first year the car came out. And in the end I was very glad I waited.
Probably no one can answer this for you.
When I was trying to decide the same kind of thing I asked myself "how will I feel three or five years from now if I decide A vs. B". I plan to keep my Fit for 15 years or so, so even if my '94 Shadow needs some work while I wait for my manual tranny I'll still be glad I held out for the car I wanted. Otherwise I'll be regretting it for years and years to come.
For other people the transmission type and color aren't that big a deal and years from now it will never cross their minds.

And....if your current car is falling apart and you can't afford to wait...well...sometimes we can't get what we want and have to do the best we can at the time. Life lesson for today
What's the smiley for barf
Don't you love people who make two diametrically opposed posts right after each other?

I guess - WHY are you stuck on the manual transmission?
If it's for better gas milage - you're not really getting that much of a difference (the auto actually runs at lower RPMS and generaly it ends up a wash...)
If you're looking at the sport model - paddle shifters - you'll still have the control you're probably looking for.
My first car was a 78 ford LTD (and yes - it was old enough to by me alcohol when I was 18...) and I LOVED the fact that if I wanted to downshift all I had to do was... not TAP exactly, but that's the best I can come up with - the gas pedal, and it'd downshift till I... er... let up a bit.
Every time - speed independant.
That control made me want a stick shift.
And I got a Ford Ranger XLT stick.
Joy <_<
It was fine for lots of stuff, but it's a pain in the city - and in the LA area? HA!!!
Florida and Mississippi were GREAT with a stick - out here, forget it.
Yeah - the control was good - I liked it...
But the paddle shifters? Come on... You really want a stick when you can have paddle shifters!?!?!?

I am waiting for my MT...I'm in it for the long haul.
My current car doesn't have AC or power steering and I'm in TX, so if I can stick it out, I think you can too.
Well, it also kind of depends on how badly your car is falling apart.
But I would stick it out as long as you can. Just my opinion! Of course I am one of those hard core stick drivers...I hope that didn't sound too bad!

Why are you people so stuck on the stick shift thing?
This is just a curriousity question.
Having had one - again... in FL and MS it wasn't bad... but in the city it's really not worth it.
You said you're in Texas - if you're not in a city then yeah - a stick isn't a big deal... but as for a positive?

Kalash - i'm with you - seems like a waste for all that work (especially when stuck in traffic!!!) for a 109 hp car - now if I had a more powerful car - I might consider stick for the sheer fun - but for a econobox/commuter like the fit, I don't want to put forth the effort lol (I'm lazy i guess)
But then again, I live/drive in the northeast (philly, NYC, etc) - I might have a different opinion if I lived in the middle of no where...

I also feel I have more control of the car when I am driving a 5-spd.versus an auto...I like being able to modulate the clutch pedal depending on my speed...you don't have that same feel with the paddle shifters. Oh, and I guess the biggie, and this is my opinion...when you slow down down behind someone who is going to turn and then you have to speed back up to go after they turn...I hate the lag an automatic has in getting going again. I didn't try this maneuver with the paddle shifters on the AT, so i can't say if it is better, but with a 5-spd you can just drop it to a lower gear and speed up quicker than in regular AT mode. Like I said it's all a matter of opinion and what you're used to...to each their own.
I was seriously debating on whether or not to get a Sport AT, but the rarity of the MT and the amount of people who love their MT's just won me over.
