Breakin in the Fit

I just got my 07 Fit M/T about 2 months ago, since then I have started a job the includes 2 hours of driving and so far i have put on 6000 miles.

All I have to say is just recently it is responding better in corners, acceleration has gotten increasingly more torquey, and throttle response has improved greatly. I have never owned a brand spankin new car before but i really am liking this break in period. Has anyone else noticed a large increase in performance this early in break in?

It might be in my head, and it also might be the fact I am not 'babying' the car anymore, but the Fit really goes when in the 4000-6000 RPM region. As well, the car does seem to corner nicely and the steering isn't as loose as it was when we first got the car.

Awesome for driving down some of the narrow and winding streets of the city.

Reminds of of the Mini car chase scene in 'The Italian Job'. ;-)

Same here @ 7k miles and the tires seem to be in their sweet spot with half the tread now scrubbed away.

Your tires have lost half their tread at 7,000 miles?

I've got nearly 11k as of today. 7k last month. Fun-City! I left a lot of rubber on 2 recent trips through the TN / NC mountains, on my way to Charleston, SC. I've also noticed that it now drifts way easier than with new tread profile, but very sedately and only at stupid-fast speeds and loads of tire screeching. I'm also solo on some vacant favorite clover leaf. No risk to others so save the dope slaps.

Crazy! I think I will try to keep my tread longer than that!

Take some video of the drifting. I would like to see it. ;-)

I'll try my new digVidCamera. It's small enough that I could rig it inside the car someway. Or my bro on the inside of the off ramp. Is it cheating by using the E-brake to get things started? An empty parking lot and the E-brake and anyone can do it. I really found the place to play Heel-n-toe, but flinging the Fit is lol fun!

Heel-n-toe in the lot I mean! And not Too much of that. It'll age too soon.

3400 miles on my auto fit, and now Im starting to notice some substantial more torque on the start and a little more kick on the downshifts. Tight cornering has always felt tight to me, so no changes noticed there...

Break in issues in cold weather?

I'm still waiting on my MT Sport (ordered in May). I'm now told it will be built in November, and I should have it before Christmas. (still making MT's, I guess )

I live in Minnesota, where the temps can dip well below 0 degrees F during that time of the year. Are there any special worries/considerations I should take into account breaking in a new car in that kind of weather? TIA!
