Does the 2012 FIT headlights automatically turned off
Hi, newbie here, just got a 2012 FIT this afternoon, was wondering if you forget to turn off the headlights and lock the car and walk away, do the headlights turn off by themselves after a while like in other modern cars, or will my batteries die off? thanks, I am still trying to read the manual on this.
This is another thing not on the North American Fits that comes here. Auto headlights, they turn on by themselves when light levels warrant headlights, we don't have the DRL here in Japan (thank you) and when the car is turned off the lights automatically turn off too. Of course it can be changed to manual mode as well on the stalk, but mine just always resides on auto. Have a strong disdain for autotragic missions, but auto lights I don't mind at all.
OP, I don't think your lights are going to turn off automatically until the battery says it has had enough. As eb stated, your car does talk to you when you pull the keys out of the ignition (another thing I don't have to do here, yes I'm just rubbing it in now) and if you fail at communication and don't listen to the car, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

This is a feature that I miss from my previous car that is for sure. We lead busy lives. Every little thing helps. Even something as simple as automatic lights.
It took a few days to remember to turn off the lights before opening the door and hearing that annoying ding ding ding.

My fit doesn't have automatic lights, but I wish it did. I've always thought it made since for headlights to automatically turn on when the car started for better visibility.
It is possible to add after market cruise control, is it possible to add after market automatic lights?

My last car, a Hyundai had auto off headlights. In think in some ways Honda is cheap.
Well it is quite a reach to turn on the headlights. They likely avoid use of signal lights as well because not automatic.
Hmm, I suspect that folks are defensive to read anything less than positive about Honda Fits, which I don't really understand. Or maybe they are defensive because they don't know the answer to my question. Since the technology is available, it just makes sense as a safety feature for the headlights to come on when you start the car and turn off when the car turns off.
I agree with Dwalbert320 that any little thing helps. I have 17 month twin boys. Anyone who has had TWO BABIES AT THE SAME TIME might understand a) wanting their vehicle to be as safe as possible and therefore having features like automatic headlights that come on for better visibility to other motorists who might pull out in front of you and b) that when you have two babies, you might occasionally be distracted when getting out of your car and the last thing you want to happen is to return to a car with a dead battery with two toddlers in tow.
I had heard that the Fits sold in Canada have this feature, but the Fits sold in US do not, so I thought there might be a way to modify the Fit I have. Thank you to the folks who posted helpful information, I may consider a Toyota for my next car if this feature is standard. For those that have difficulty understanding why the question was posed in the first place, it probably would make more sense to just shrug your shoulders and move on rather than post snarky remarks that don't contribute to the conversation.

and you wont even need headlights.

Modern conveniences are good but the basics cannot be overlooked. Those who've been driving a while have the experience and appreciate modern conveniences, advances in technology and safety features. Newer drivers should know or be reminded of these or otherwise become ignorant and complacent about the details...
Like a "safety checklist before operating..." that is soon forgotten because the convenience of automation has taken over. Rant attack coming but resisting...
Just an observation but basic driver skill sets/good practice/habits have to be there and embedded. To cite, I've seen my share of cars on the road with headlights off at night and not because they have good night vision (I don't think)
. But because many car panel clusters are now illuminated full time (modern technology advances) it gives the driver a false sense that their lights are on or because of their DRL allowing them to see down the dark road. Whereas in other cars, panel lights only come on when you turn on your lights (light switch). Again back to basics of being familiar with the car you drive and the environment - driver mental checklist. ABS, DRL, ESC, TPMS, MM, auto-dimming rear view mirrors, blind spot/backup warning, etc. all evolved from lessons learned. Just my thoughts, my opinion and my concerns... Not an expert, just a concerned/conscious driver.
And definitely, defensive driving is a good thing... We all share the same public roads. Be safe out there everyone! Enjoy the ride... with the rest of us!
And btw, welcome aboard!

Subie, I like your observation about the panel lights. If I remember correctly, my VW Golf had the panels lights that would come on without the headlights coming on, and I agree that's problematic. Well, a lot of things were problematic about the Golf, which is why I drive a fit now
But, it's like anything in design, you wonder if someone bothered testing it out before putting it into production.

So sad that this is even a thread...
