Transmission question

When I put my car in drive or reverse it makes the car shake a little. is this normal? because if it is I'm not worried. Let me know if your feel the same thing.

Thanks

Do you have an AT or MT?

Does this shake seem to be more pronounced when it is cold or in the morning?

Does this shake disappear after your car has been warmed up?

It's actually more like a small jerk or hickup when going from reverse to drive, it's probably nothing. It does'nt do anything if I stop and wait a second to switch from drive to reverse. It's just my last car did it more smoothly.

Thanks, guys

Mine had a noticeable jerk when it was new.

Now that I have almost 6,000 miles on it - it is barely noticable!!

if you can hear a clunk you might want to have Honda look at it

a jerk that shouldn't be there when going from reverse to forward or the other way around is typical of a broken engine mount

Does it do it all the time? Or just when its cold? If the car is cold the idle will be higher than normal, so an abrupt shifts from park to any gear would be normal.

So you were a jerk until you got your Fit? Sweet, another nice side-effect of owning a Fit, calmness behind the wheel. Just Kidding of course. But I still wouldn't know, still waiting for a build date and at the two month point.

Some think I still am!!! But, that is ok, I'm the one smiling when I'm driving down the road in my Fit, as I don't have to wait for mine to be built!!

Is the car moving when you shift from reverse to drive?

i noticed with my parents fit, automatic, that when you shift from reverse into drive and take your foot off of the brake before drive fully engages it jerks. the trick is to wait for drive to fully engage before taking your foot off of the brake. I noticed the car didnt like it when you took your foot off of the brake too soon, it jerks and makes noise.

Yup, mine does this as well. You have to be completely stopped before changing gears.

you shouldn't be changing gears if the car is moving at all. that goes for AT and MT. You could mess it up if you continue to do that

I am sure you don't mean that for Manual do you?? I drove a manual most of my life (being English) and always found it best to change gear whilst the car was moving - especially from 3rd upwards.

He meant from a forward to a reverse gear or vice a versa.

Yes, always change gears at a complete stop.. And when you're sitting at an uphill stop light, use your brakes. Some people just let the idle float the car for them without stepping on the brakes. Really bad for you transmission. And when parking on a slope.. when turning your wheels towards the curb, make sure your tires hit the curb, it takes about 70% of the load off the parking brakes and the transmission.

that "tires hit the curb" plan works for a Base Fit but be carefull of high curbs with the Sport! Very little clearance under the front spoiler...
