What is with all these its against the law people on here? Its a car forum. If I look up anything from license plate covers " not by a search just ran into the post" to hid's. Its just people bitching on how your breaking the law. I agree on the hid topic but if someone wants them so be it. but why do so many people post usless shit. Also search " how to get rid of seat belt chim. More people bitching about how you will become a human projectile and kil someone "really" Yet no one complaines about washers under you front seat bolts? Or replacing your stearing wheel to something without a airbag. Is this just regular people that own fits and never really been into cars? I have been building cars and racing them on the streets for 12 plus and never have seen such stright edge people on a car fourm ever? Is this really the majority of fit owners? Sorry im just venting because everything I look up turns into 4 pages of people throwing there morals/ old man input into a post and its just anoying as hell.

 

Well, you could say at the same time you don't have to listen to them.

A lot of people just don't want to condone dumb shit. Many of the members on here are older and i'm sure have done all that dumb shit at one time or another, but we've grown up, learned and matured. You've been building and street racing cars for twelve years, you should know what's what by now. I won't suggest to someone just getting into cars how do to things the wrong way. There's plenty of DIY threads on here about how to do things the right way, though usually not the cheapest way.

You should post what car forums you've frequented prior. The answers might explain things.

 

yah, especially this forum has a mix of young and old (and odd), and they like to voice their personal comments at times trying to get some kind of credibility or some kind of justification... or maybe it's just that they want to be acknowledged by society. not sure wat their issue is.

anyway, as wanderer said, you can always ignore them. just stick around and you will figure out who the cool cats are.

 

I hear you guys. I used to be on mwir haha that was like 9 years ago. Then honda-tech and evolutionm.net. I just hate when people tell people whats good for them. Its like when I step out of a resturant to have a smoke. Its always some fat women leaving tells me how bad smoking is. Yet id never say so is eating because im no doctor. Haha. The others have basically expressed what I came to say. So with that said.. I enjoy a cigar about 1-3 times a month, usually on my own property while working on the car, house or yard.

Of the couple times someone from the neighborhood walking past has started the "smoking kills" speech, I ask them how they plan to live forever and failing that.. why don't they come work out with me a few nights a week?

 

Got that a while back in a store buying a 1 liter of Diet Coke when this older guy started preaching to me "that stuff will kill you." He kept it up following me out of the store. Upon exiting I reached into my pocket and pulled out a cigarette and lite it up. And turn to the guy and said "thank god all this time I thought the cigarettes were going to kill me." He did not know what to say, I got in my car and drove off.

People go nuts about smoking. I have a family friend who had a mini stroke shes 71 years old. Shes great now but she asked the doctor why did i have a stroke? The doc goes do you smoke she says yes, he goes thats why. Same thing happened to my buddys dad who is way over weight. Just he had a heart attack. If both of them whould have died it would have been "statically speaking" because of cigs. Why not because of a heart attack or stroke?

 

I guess expanding on the analogy that's being created here:

If I ASK someone about smoking and they give me their opinion, I have no right to be mad about it. If they come out of left field, see me smoking, and put their two cents in i'll tell them to GFY.

Same goes for forums. You ask a question and people will give their opinions. If you post something you did to your car in a build thread and people start criticizing it that's a different story. If it's something that you did that was unsafe and people are calling it out though, you shouldn't be surprised, we all share the road with you after all, and that unsafe mod can end up ruining our day as well as yours. Sometimes people don't realize something they did is unsafe and it's worth trying to educate them. If they knew it was unsafe and did it anyway, well, Darwin Awards await you possibly, you may end up lucky, but at least we tried.

If i'm off in the corner smoking by myself minding my own business, leave me alone. If i'm standing in the middle of a crowd and my smoke is bothering you, I will not be surprised if you say something to me if it's bothering you.

 

Wanderer. In that mindset every mod is dangerous to other motorist. Making a car faster, stop faster, exc exc.

 

Not so, speed doesn't kill, bad drivers kill. Improving handling and braking increase safety if anything. If you want to throw a ton of boost at your motor and you blow it up while driving, well, that ruins your day, but I could care less (unless your piston lands on my roof, then i'd be pissed, but an unlikely scenario )

But, for example, lets say you put spacers that are too thick for you stock studs on to help your helladope stance, even the best driver in the world is not going to be able to do a damn thing when the studs and nuts snap and the wheel goes flying off.

 

Im just saying you throw on a 4 or 6 piston brake setup on a 2400 pound car with some sticky tires.....well most cars on the streets will be crazhing into the rear of your car every time you stand on them. Which would make a brake upgrade dangerous to others on the street. Thats why i said with that mind set everything dangerous. But i super agree with spacers on stock length studs. Big no no usually.

You could end up behind a Ferrari in traffic. It will outbrake 90% of the cars on the road stock and is completely road legal. It is up to you as the driver to realize this and not follow him/her with a one car gap as they barrel through traffic at 100 mph.

But then again I guess you wouldn't be capable of doing that in a Fit.

On the other hand, what you say has merit in some sense. Lets say an imaginary 400HP Turbo Fit capable of 160 mph top speeds running stock brakes. Unsafe? A bit I think, though this is an extreme example.

Most on forums will call you out for driving like a maniac in traffic anyway. "Take it to the track, etc, etc". That in itself is unsafe and generally frowned upon, especially posting your exploits via Youtube and make a thread about it.

 

The ferrari point is awsome hahah. But that is what i mean there are cars all over the usa with out seatbelts and airbags " older cars". So if someone wants that on their fit so be it.
Dude a fit can keep up with a Ferrari just put a tow rope between the two cars hahahah. That could be some sort of new team racing hahah. A supercar towing a fit around a track two drivers vs two drivers hahah

 

Aint nothing wrong with power & braking mods (suspension, etc, etc), if you do it right.

That being said, I smoked most of my adolescent and adult life and still love smoking but i decided to quit because I'm 31 and if smoke till I'm 40, I'm taking that s$#! to the grave! So I figured it's now or never. I know, that there's a good chance I won't get cancer but lung cancer appears to be about #1 on my list of ways I don't wanna die so I figured I'd quit. I still envy smokers and I agree that people who give a speech on smoking are frikkin annoying! Still, don't drive in the left lane and don't overtake on the right! No!

Well, you have to admit that posting in a public forum that you're doing something illegal that could be dangerous is kind of dumb. If you do get into an accident you're providing evidence to the other side.

And as far as info- I didn't know that there's a lot to be done when putting HID on a Fit because otherwise the headlights are a hazard to others, until I saw it here. I suppose there was some chance I'd think about changing the headlights, not sure if I'd have found this info elsewhere. It is possible that I'd just have gone to an auto parts store, asked for better lights, been given HIDs and installed them without knowing there's much more to it...

Telling people they shouldn't smoke? What planet are people on that they think that smokers don't already know there's a health risk? It's one thing to discuss it with a loved one, but a stranger?

 

Mods done right there is no problem you usually go on forums to get advise on how to do it right or to show the end results. People giving different points of view on how to install or suggestions on what you may consider when doing the mod is also good because we never can can think of all the issues. There will always be people on the road that shortcut mods due to cost just as there are people who text when driving that is why the rest of us have to drive defensive.

As far as HID done properly looks good and is very expensive, not sure about breaking the law.
