Talking Looking for advice...

Hello Guys and Gals!

I just bought an 09 Fit Sport (auto) with Navi (48k miles). I'm a 38 year old male and I was looking for a car to keep for ~2 years (current job assignment). Right now I work during the week at a location about 300 miles from my home which I go to every weekend. I stay in a hotel during the week. I was looking for a practical car that gets good mpgs and good resale value.

I'll put ~70-80k miles on this car over the next ~2 years (22 months to be precise) driving back and forth. That's over 1000 hours in this ride in the next 22 months. I'll then sale the car. My truck gets 17.5 mpg so it will sit in the garage until this assignment is over.

So with that said, can you guys offer any advice on how to maximize my experience? Better MPGs? Maximize ride comfort? Mods for the highway (ie. Satellite radio, remote start, etc?). Maximize resale value (ie. paint protection, etc.). Maintenance considerations?

So far I know I’m going to hardwire the Valintine1 from my truck in the Fit and somehow add XM. Windows are already tinted. Not sure what other mods would benefit my experience so I’m asking y’all.

Thanks for all the help!

Well, they'll increase your comfort, at least, and possibly your car's life expectancy, but I don't think they'll do too much for your own life expectancy.

Besides tires, another thing that lots of people here really like the Clazzio seat covers.

Maybe the nicest little "improvement" I've put in my Fit is a little plastic trash can from a dollar store, about a gallon or so in size. I had to stick some stones in the bottom of it (under the bag) to keep it from tipping over. Having it handy keeps me from having trash collect in other nooks and crannies.

Just be on top of ur oil changes and everything will be ok. From 40k to 80k I've never seen any huge problems with the 2nd gen fits. At ur mileage right now tho u should get ur brakes inspected if they already havnt been replaced.

Thanks for the help guys! One of the 1st things I need to do it to protect the paint ahead of all this highway miles. What are of the front gets paint chips the most and what are our options to protect the paint?

Thanks!

have a look at the goodies available from this place. They have a bra (nose mask), but a lot of people here get "clear" bras.

Me, I just got a touch up paint kit with a pen/brush to dab on small chips. Don't use it much.

By all means think about tires. New tires sure make the car quieter, at least for a little while. Maybe get a little package of ear plugs.

Cheers.

If you're driving on the highway a lot, sound deadening is worth the effort. It does take a lot of time to do right. Made a good car much better.

i agree. it doesnt look like the op wants to spend much money or time on the car. tires like continental DWS will be worth looking into.

i dont trust garbage tires like falken 512's that for sure. that will definitely shorten life expectancy in cold wet weather where the DWS will handle it like a champ.

Thanks! I'm interested in the clear bra and sound deadening. I'll look for threads on the best value options. BTW, I don't mind spending a little time and money if it will help my highway driving experience and or reselling the car later.

I'm also interested in the quieter tires but the seller just put new Dunlops on it so it may be a while before those get replaced.

For sound deadening, search sound deadening on this site. One of our members has a complete stereo install and he goes over some options. I believe he used a brand called second skin. Of memory is serving me well at least ha ha
