Got Re-FITted today
I rarely park outside here in cloudy Ohio. Garage at home, free parking garage at work.

Congrats! I traded in my 2011 with 54,000 miles on it for a 2013 with 26 miles on it (21 of which are from the sales guy going to pick it up from the other dealership) about a week ago. Went from orange to dark grey.
Why? I have an 09 with 45,000 kms and can't justify trading.
Not sure why I should have to "justify" trading to anyone... but I made the decision based on the fact that I actually got lower payments out of the deal, a brand new car with no miles on it, and I got to skip a payment and avoid coming out of pocket with the taxes that would have been due last week, since Georgia changed their taxing procedure from an annual tax to a one-time tax that gets rolled into the vehicle OTD price. Not to mention it'll be that much longer now before I'll have to pay for certain maintenance updates, like new brakes... I'm under employed right now so every penny makes a difference.
The '07 still ran great. I probably needed to have the rotors turned - felt a little pulsing sometimes when breaking.
After my '07 was paid off, I kept putting away the payments into savings - so I had saved enough to pay ca$h. (Still putting away those car payments into savings.)
There are several nice cosmetic and electronic upgrades with the newer FIT. AND it smells new! Also the BLACK FIT looks good parked next to my BLACK Yamaha V-Star 950 Tourer.

Maybe being underemployed you would have been better off driving a beater with no payments rather than having the "need" a new car. Just saying.
baldddguy - congrats for saving up for the new one. Nice isn't it. I have my next one saved and $5,000 in a separate account for those must have mods.
my '12 has improvements over my '09. i suppose at 54k miles, that is a good time to swap cars before resell value drops even more.
I did not ask you to justify. I said I could not justify. But if I could get my dealer to sell me one for a smaller monthly payment hey I would trade too. But you did not say how many more of these "smaller" payments you will be making over what you had. You are likely just paying a hell of a lot more interest to spread them over a longer period of time. Way more than say a brake repair.

It is true that I will be paying longer now, but if I get the job I think I will be getting in the fall, I'll be in a position where I can pay my car off faster anyway because then I'll be able to pay more than the minimum monthly. But for the moment, I'm living paycheck to paycheck, and this was a way to save a few dollars in my monthly budget without giving up the car I'm used to.
I was actually fine with the idea of getting a beater with no payments, and if it comes to it that's what I'll do. But every beater I've ever owned has ended up costing me more than if I had a car payment anyways... I can't afford to be repairing transmissions, engines, or anything else that tends to go bad in a higher mileage car; having the peace of mind of knowing my car is very unlikely to need costly repairs anytime soon helps me sleep a little bit better at night.
Furthermore, I actually have told my husband on multiple occasions that, if it gets to the point where we have to get rid of things to save money, I'll be giving up items where I can before he will; I feel like this is only fair since I'm the one with the job issue. Every time I have brought this up, he either reassures me that it's not going to come to that or insists that we are not giving up my car because we need reliable transportation. Yes, I know I have the ultimate say since it's mine, but it's his budget too, so we have argued over this several times.
