Fit fits in parking space

Have had my 13 Base for 3 weeks. It's hard to judge where the front of the car is, so I've been cautious when I park at work, cuz spaces have those little concrete "barriers". Didn't want to hit the front of the car on the barrier. Well, noticed yesterday that Fit front end is actually high enough to clear that barrier. Relief to me, cuz I had read where guys were scraping the front end on barriers and what have you. Base front end is a bit higher than Sport, I guess.

Don't know if it's higher, but it doesn't extend quite as far. And USDM Fits have a longer nose than God and Soichiro Honda intended.

I've often wished for the cute JDM nose but reading the insurance tests it's easier to understand why it's extended here.

I think you may have a false sense of security regarding the concrete "barriers". Not all barriers are the same height. So, while you have clearance at the parking lot/garage at work, you may not have clearance at the post office, etc.

Soichiro's been dead for decades. He'd likely have never approved of much about the Fit...

That said, people who park over those curbs are the worst.

As small as the Fit is, it should be fine to park back away from them and then not be in the aisle.

I ruined my plastic airdam stuff underneath because of that.

Exactly, it's so small you can easily get away with it

Yeah, I think I got lucky cuz the nose was over the barrier. I usually park so I'm not that close to it. Still getting used to the Fit and where I'm at when I'm parking (still hard for me to judge distance). I'm usually further away than I think. Maybe Honda should put a warning voice alarm: HEY DUMMY YER TOO CLOSE! Or something like that.....

I had my 2012 Fit Sport for two weeks when I pulled into a parking space with a barrier and I didn't realize how low the Sport is and I gouged the underside of my Fit. It wasn't too noticeable so I covered it with touch-up paint. From that point on I'm very cautious about those barriers.

Yep, base front end is about 2 inches higher than the sport one.

Thanks Connor! I did find out that if I exit a driveway from a parking area at work, I can scrape the bottom of the lip. Didn't do any damage, but I heard it and said Oh....fooey.

I can fit my Fit and my motorcycle into a space, there's no reason to pull so far forward. I'd be worried someone would swoop into the spot if I pulled so far forwards that the bumper was over the bar.

just look out your side window and compare position with your side mirror. if you park at the same or similar spot every day, just memorize where the wall or pillar is vs your side mirror.

or, just stop like 15-20cm short of the side mirror of a parked car next to you and check before going deeper.

There are those who have, and those who will.

I am the former—left a bunch of paint in Quincy, Illinois.

Cheers.

I'm lowered on swift springs, and have always parked backwards against the parking slabs. It would definitely hit most slabs if parked forward in the spots.

My trusty '08 front and rear overhangs still have never kissed those barriers. Its been keyed, scratched, door dinged. Thanks to rubbing compound, polish and dent removal guys, these problems have been minimized.
Fit is small enough I make the effort to choose the spot and park away from barriers and adjacent vehicles. You'll get used to it for sure.
