New to the forum. Have a lot of work to do.

Hey all. 2008 Fit owner and looking to start doing some modifications. I'm coming up on 100k miles and need A LOT of work done to last another 100k. I'm starting to acquire tools so if anyone has recommendations on brands that would be great. Right now I'm looking at jack stands, impact wrenches, brakes, spark plugs and other regular maintenance items.

I have the 2008 Fit Sport blue. Going to need some new tires this year as well. I really want to learn my way around the car more than the usual stuff and modify for some fun racing on the weekends somewhere. I have a coworker how does this with some older Porsches and my dad use to drag race when I was growing up.

So any recommendations, websites, directions, help would be very much appreciated.

for tools, the only thing that matters is that it has a brand name on it. all tools have a lifetime warranty, and its so much easier when you can go to the store you bought it from and exchange.

Stanley from walmart are perfectly fine, and cheap. craftsman, milwaukee, kobalt, blackhawk, pretty much any brand is good.

for starters, with honda's, a simple metric socket kit and metric wrench kit will cover 90% of anything you are working on.

Got a Harbor Freight nearby? grab a set of various extensions and swivels, and now you would be like 98% of the tools you need.

Des,

Thank you for the welcome. I see you're in Wilmington. My mother is in Southport so we come down there a handful of times a year. I will hit you up when questions arise. Thanks.

13fit,

Thank you for the insight. I've been debating on jack stands for a while. My wife is concerned of course about me going under the car so really looking for best possible. I have my eye on Torin, because they have the pin lock as well as ratchet. Any recommendations for impact wrenches? Thanks.

Des,

Thank you for the invite. Not sure if we will be able to make it down during the 4th this year. The kids have a lot going on during the summer and finding it harder to travel there. It's usually easier for grandma to come up here.

13fit,

I found out that we do have a Harbor Freight in the area. Prices are pretty good. How's the quality? I'm going to take a trip there this weekend, might be an costly one .

In my (somewhat limited) experience, Harbor Freight tends to have cheap tools for cheap prices. That's not to say they're unusable, or bad deals—quite the opposite—but you're getting what you pay for.

Sometime some other places have cheap tools for not so cheap prices. Snap-on and similar top tier companies make not cheap tools that have not cheap prices. There is definitely a difference in how well made a snap-on ratchet is when compared with a HF ratchet, but both are entirely capable of removing a typical bolt.

(I'd get a breaker bar well before I get an impact wrench, by the way. In fact, I just did last weekend.)

I've never had any trouble with fairly cheap ratcheting jack stands. I don't think the pinned kind is inherently safer; the ratchet can't move unless the weight is lifted a bit first. Obviously, you don't want to be exceeding the weight limit of any jack stand, not that you have too much to worry about with the Fit in that regard.

My first recommendation for a 1/2" torque wrench will be Walmart. They have an all-steel one there that has lasted me years, far longer than the $50 Crapsman with plastic components it replaced. I wouldn't trust either for serious engine work, but to know you're in the ballpark when tightening wheel lugs, it's better than nothing. They're probably still about 20 bucks.

A good one from SnapOn was about $350 last time I looked. But it can also be calibrated, which is what you would eventually want to have if you tear into major repairs.
