Maintanence schedule Q?
Maintanence schedule Q?
Hey guys. First post! I've been looking around on here for a few days now, and I'm looking at getting a 2008 Fit Sport on Friday w/75k miles (to replace my long suffering and now deceased EK Civic). The car is real clean and the Carfax looks great, last 2 owners were real solid on general maintenance. And, no leaky windows. Also, Taffeta White. Awesome.
I was wondering if anyone had any maintenance they'd recommend I take care of as soon as I get the car. My brother (basically my mechanic) and I looked it over when we test drove it, and everything looks great so far.
Thanks in advance guys!
EDIT: just realized, wrong forum. In any case, new member here. What's up.

Need to know what they did already before complete answer.
Replace spark plugs and coolant I believe is coming up at 100k. Right around 100k people start having issues with coil packs as well from what i've seen. Other than that, if brake, oil, transmission has been maintained there's not much else to do.

If you can know exactly when certain maintenance items were performed it would be the best. There is a page in owners manual where you are supposed to write down the mileage and type of maintenance item completed. Might check there.
If like me, you cannot know for sure what has been done, do it all yourself!
Fluids:
-bleed the brakes and clutch fluid (requires 2 bottles of fluid, 3 to be safe)
-drain and replace the transmission fluid
-drain and replace the coolant
If the weather is nice, you could also inspect the front brake pads and clean and lubricate the caliper slide pins (with silicone grease). If your brakes are functioning well (as probably noted by your mechanic buddy) I wouldn't really worry about it.
Inspect the engine and cabin air filters and replace if necessary. I recommend going with the fram or other brand CABIN air filter because it has 0 impact on overall vehicle performance and the OEM cabin filter is waaaay overpriced. For the engine filter, I use OEM.
I recommend also doing the cheap condenser protection mod as outlined in this thread:

Usually you can go by the maintenance minder to do the oil. I change mine between 30 and 15% oil life remaining. The first time I did my oil change, it took several trips to the parts store and different type wrenches to get the frikkin oil filter off. Be aware that some people think you have tighten that filter with the strength of Goliath (which is wrong, it's supposed to be only 8 foot lbs of torque) so be prepared to get a good set of oil filter pliers if need be.

The carfax was actually pretty detailed on all the maintenance that's been done, I just don't have it with me atm. I saw the condenser mod thread, I was already planning on it. Makes sense, and doesn't look bad either. And I figured I'd have to do the oil and fluids right off the bat too. All sounds pretty routine. I'll keep my eye on the coil packs and spark plugs though. And I'm definitely doing the cabin filter. The last owner smoked in the car, so I gotta do some real cleaning inside to get rid of that smell.
Thanks guys!
