ANy Canadian here - US/Canada duties question

I want to buy stuff from Zeta, about 200$ worth.

But they give me the price and tell me to add duties and taxes. Taxes, I can figure out, but how much are the duties...Anyone knows this?

Zeta does not know and it seems I'll find out when I receive the material....Until I know I am not ordering anything.

Depends how they ship. UPS is the worst for duty fees IMO.

USPS is the best way to go.
Tell the seller to mark as return items.

Good luck

Technically for non NAFTA products, it will be 6% on top of gst/pst- that's the most you should expect

If customs determines it to be made in the USA, it would only be charged GST/PST

No matter what service you use, they will likely clear customs for you - taxes/duties/service charges are all lumped into a single brokerage fee, of which UPS is the worst.

marking it as gift / returns / warranty repair no longers get you around the duties

if they open the package and deem it to be new items, they will ding you and then it's up to YOU to prove them wrong..

where abouts are you anyways?

i imported like 5g worth of inventory for my store last week and i paid only $150 in duties plus GST

I'm in the Montreal region. I'd prefer to find what Zeta is selling in Canada to make it easier.

Hi to everyone on thie north side of the border!
I got quoted 40$ of transport fees by Angelo at Zeta. I would have been interested by the Satin dash kit and the folding arm rest.
Duty fees worry me a lot because of a bad previous experience: I once bought a set of speakers from a fellow member of MPV.club who shipped them in the original box AND insured. It ended up costing more in duty clearence than the friendly cost of the items.
On the other hand, i know someone who orderd all kinds of chrome parts for his motorbyke from e-bay US based merchants, and only had to pay duties on the one item imported from California. No problem with the ones from Texas and Ohio. Oh...and this detail: the shipping address is away from any big town.

Of course, the magic but possibly more costly solution would be to buy Canadian...just a thought. I have no mean to offend our friendly supplier from across the border

I got served by FedEx duties on my Vogtland Springs...I thought I got away from them when I recieved them since I didn't need to pay anything, then a letter comes in the mail telling me I owe them 25% of the price of the springs as duties...RAPE!!!

For Canadians who live near border towns, it's practically better to get it shipped to a border town like Point Roberts and import it yourself.

Tax evasion aside, if you cross it yourself, you should pay less than any brokerage charges assigned by the shippers.
